Hi all,
While I was not very active on the forum lately, I’m glad and proud to announce that I moved from France to Canada.
My main address is now in Montreal, Quebec. This long time project turns to real. We are so excited to relocate ourselves in Canada!
Some of you guys know that I’m also involved on a photos oriented website as an Editor (non aviation, see my profile). I was pretty busy with that lately.
I meet quite a few members so far (In Zurich, Barcelona, Dallas, Kansas City, Atlanta and even Anchorage, to name a few); I can’t wait to meet the local around Montreal.

I've been in Vancouver almost 2 years ago for the first time. Just an amazing city. I was blown for sure. And for the records, WA state is on my top 5 in the USA. The only problem around is, guess what, the rain! I come from an ultra wet region in France. Last winter, it was almost rainy across the season. I can't stand the rain anymore For my own good I gave myself a shot in Winnipeg last winter. Man THAT was cold! That's being said, one can safely bet I will spend some in BC in the future.
Time will tell I guess. I truly love Montreal, just like Toronto and Vancouver.
See you in Vancouver hopefully one day!

It's truly not a matter of chance. The gap is obvious, but I have no problem whatsoever speaking French here in Montreal or anywhere in Quebec. It's true that we don't share accent neither wild expressions or bad words in general. One has to understand that it's basically the same in France between North and South. The gap is obviously larger between France and Quebec.
One thing that still amazed me is the way fellow in Quebec could switch between French and English seamlessly during a conversation. These people are truly bilingual. Now maybe that's the reason why some guys in France feel some irritation

Go to Acadia (basically eastern & northern New Brunswick/Nouveau Brunswick) .. they proudly speak 'real' French there, not the joual patois du Quebec. Not that I mind that, either.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Do you guys have any advices as far as aviation is concerned? Spotting area around YUL, good place to look trafic, ... you know, that kind of stuff ?

Its not so different that mutual comprehension is impossible. Certainly not like Deutsch and Schweizerdeutsch. I speak "real" French and the biggest thing I noticed is that the Quebecois speak more slowly and in that O-Key player rhythm.

One part I really loved of my vacation in Montreal was their French. I usually hate French (as spoken by French or Swiss people), but I felt really at ease in Quebec, because of the accent similarities their French shares with US English. They're less uptight and more relaxed if compared to "the original" on this side of the pond. It's only a bit hard to understand some things in the beginning, but you get used to it after a week or so.

Thanks! Toronto is an amazing city. I was lucky enough to visit it some years ago and keep great memories flying from downtown airport to Ottowa (with Jazz at that time). I may raise some flags there, but I find Toronto somewhat similar to Vancouver as for urban layout. Have not idea as far mentalities and way of life are concerned, still

You are absolutetly right there but I still have some troubles with my brand new computer there. Granted, I'm an IT specialist but man, it's a pain in the neck to switch from French keyboard layout to an US one after years of 'fast typing'

See, I spent about 10 minutes doing the "Insert symbol" thing (I use openoffice Write; not Micro$(# anythign) and I keep a little text file called "Accents" on my desktop at all times. Its entire contents are:

I grew up and lived for 16 years in Dunkerque (59). Moved to Montreal back in 96 and still love it!

There's quite a few good spotting places around YUL. Pittfield St along HWY 13, 55th Avenue, Chemin St Francois is another good one. Hit me up by email or visit yulaviation.com for more info.

Welcome to Canada! It's good to see fellow Europeans move here, especially from Western Europe. Montreal is a nice place, especially if you speak French. Personally I enjoy the warmer climate, such as Vancouver... so like someone else said... We'll be waiting for you

You will get used to it. At home I have a French keyboard, and at work I have an English one. I switch from one to another without any problem.
For the accent, you can also use the keypad, by pressing "Alt" + 0, followed by the codes listed below:

So, if you want the "é", for example, you should type "Alt" followed by 0233.

Wait, I'm almost 100% sure you wouldn't mind flying YUL-ZRH to join the annual meet, this would also change from your usual BIQ-LYS-ZRH routings, right ?

It will be somewhat ironic for me now to spend my holidays in Europe. I haven't had any week truly off in Europe since ages, apart days from time to time.
Our first weeks in Canada are happy and busy. happy cause we fell just fine in the great city of Montreal. It's true that we are more than familiar with Canada and North America in general. it obviously helps
I have pretty nice feedback regarding jobs so far (hey, one has to pay bills, right? )
That's pretty much so far. I can't wait to share a drink or two with you. Remember Zurich this summer? that was just nice!

I was born/raised in Montreal but live in Alberta - another great province!
I'm heading to Montreal on Sunday for an few weeks... and the funny thing is that I will be staying with my aunt in Ville LaSalle. So if any meets or things come up soon I'll be sure to join. Anyone thinking of doing any spotting in the next couple weeks?
