The Bacon Thread

Fri Nov 20, 2009 6:40 pm

Since the "Uncontroversial Thread" got sort of hijacked by this topic, I figured I'd just start one here.

Mmmm... bacon. So bad for you. Yet so good!

Bacon comes from pigs.

Pigs eat natural vegetable-based foodstuffs (at least the ones I eat do!).

Therefore bacon forms a essential element of the governments recommended 5-a-day fruit / vegetable intake.

As do beer, wine and chocolate - but that's another thread  Wink

Please forgive my ignorance, but I've never seen bacon other than sliced up in a package in the store. I'm going to assume that's bulk or "unsliced" bacon? Looks mighty good!

Slice it thick and put it on the BBQ! I've put regular sliced bacon on my BBQ before. As a welder by trade, in my off hours at work, I made a stainless steel grill with the rods very close together and perpendicular to each other so the bacon wouldn't slip through. Tasted fantastic! Nothing like a little char-grilled bacon!  yummy

Here on base, when they have it that is, they bake it! Tastes like bland cardboard!  yuck

When I was in Australia last month, I made sure I had bacon every day! Yes my friends, I was in "Hog Heaven"!!! (yes, I ride a Harley too!).

I'm one of those people....for different reasons. Diabetics don't need all that sugar in the coke. We can handle burgers, no problem - Twice the sugar (carbs) in 8 oz. of Coke as there is in a small order of fries from McD's. I rather have a burger, small fries, and a diet Dr Pepper than a hamburger and an 8 oz. coke -- both combos have the same amount of sugar (carbs).

Bacon is just too good though....I like a little bit of sugar free syrup on mine though, if I am having pancakes or waffles. Mmmm.

There is as much sugar in a 1/4 cup of real syrup as there is in my carb limit for each meal. Sugar free syrup tastes similar, but only has 12 carbs per 1/4 cup, about 1/4 of my carb limit per meal.

Also, I don't like the term pour. Over-saturated syrup on bacon is gross...you need just enough to make it sweet and salty.
