Boeingfever777 Heart Surgery

Mon Nov 30, 2009 3:17 am

Well, the time has come for Matt (Boeingfever777) to get his heart surgery. The surgery will be on December 1st. This is the surgery for after his recent stroke, as you can read about in the thread linked below.
Boeingfever777 Has Had A Stroke (by Longhornmaniac Oct 30 2009 in Non Aviation)

I'd like us all here in Non-Av and here at Airliners.net to wish him a safe and speedy recovery after his surgery.

Good luck Matt!

All our thoughts and wishes are with him. I hope he is getting the surgery done by a top team of heart surgeons in the best possible conditions with the best possible hospital facilities.

Hey guys,

Just thought I'd drop by and give an update:

Apparently, the surgery didn't go real well, and they found another clot which may require full-blown open heart surgery.

Don't know much else at this point, but there weren't any complications or anything from the surgery, so I suppose that is good news.

Myself or others will keep you all apprised of the situation.

Please keep Matt, his wife, Drew, and the rest of their family in your thoughts and prayers.

Cheers,
Cameron

Haha... not really bad but not really the best.

They took me in and before operating they did a Transesophageal Echocardiogram. By doing this they:

1.) Realized and were able to see there was no tearing in my fenestration created back in 94-95' in my Modified Fontan procedure that Dr. George Ruel did. (This is excellent news)

2.) They were also able to look around the back of my heart and make sure it is healthy. (Which it is)

3.) They did however find that when my Cooley Shunt was taken down and tied off then the stump created a perfect little dead end for clots to form.

So to correct this they can crack me open via open heart surgery which is the last option or can tackle it with high powered blood thinners. So myself and my wife opted for that.  Smile

Currently taking again: Coumadin & Lovenox. The Coumadin is 5mg 1x daily and the Lovenox is injected via shot in my stomach every 12hrs.

Hope this clears up questions and worries there might have been. I go to Texas Children's Hospital, Baylor Heart Clinic, and Texas Heart Institute and have for 29 years. These guys are the best in the world at what they do.

I however will measure my blood for how thin it is and will be getting a kit to do so at my home. Also will return in February 2010 for a follow up.

Thanks again all for the prayers and concerns and to my brother and Cam for letting all know the info.

Again, I don't know you, and if you were born with a weak heart maybe, but you sure have my respect for whatever the reason might be.

May you find strength in the worst of times. Hope you are back on your feets in no time.
