MAN Meet 2010 - Preliminary Planning

Fri Dec 11, 2009 12:57 pm

Right, as everyone knows, there's usually something that happens in the first weekend of July each year known as a Manchester meet, or MAN meet, which involves, drinking, drinking, and , err,, drinking Big grin Oh, and there's one or two planes and some photography as well Big grin

Well, no doubt 2010 will see the same again, and so, as every other year, we shall plan for the first weekend in July, which in 2010 will be the 3rd and 4th of July.

So if yer interested in coming to Manchester in 2010, which should produce a lot of laughs and drunkeness*, please put your name down below.

Attending:
GKirk

Maybe:

*If you find that the thought of getting drunk and having a good laugh with some old, and new mates is displeasing, please feel free to go to Birmingham (BHX/EGBB)  duck
When you hear the noise of the Tartan Army Boys, we'll be coming down the road!

You forgot to mention bullet proof vests should be worn at all times  Wink

I'll attend, up and back on Air Southwest as normal I should think, there aren't quite as many options this year for making the return more interesting.

Incidentally I booked my outward flights yesterday routing HAJ-NCL-EXT-MAN on BE on Friday, 02-JUL
Hotel is reserved
Options for flights home on Monday are under evaluation: Might become a boring nonstop, but timings are just perfect.
Considering to conduct a quick trip to IOM on Sunday afternoon.

England will definitely be out by then but the story is quite different with Germany, I predict that there will be a fourth star above the DFB logo on the team's shirts after the World Cup.  Wink

Now, I'm sure Tom and Duna will be with me when I say, we need to book as early as possible and think of the most unique way. Maybe we should attempt our LHR-ARN-MAN?

You could do something like LGW-MAD-GRO-NYO-DUB-MAN with FR though. Depends how cheap it is being a weekend, but you could always travel most of it on the Friday or even the Thursday before hand. Could cost you under a tenner if you plan it right  Wink

I haven't even looked yet. But last time I did the fares were ridiculous. And "rape" is exactly the way I would've described it too!

Edit: Just had a quick look. A return on a F70 is 111 euros. Not so bad. One way; 499.  covereyes

One way it is then! Big grin Maybe think about doing an open jaw flight; something like LHR-AMS-EDI, so it's technically a return (with an overnight) but you don't end up back at your initial departure point. I know they used to be reasonable, I paid £148rtn a few years ago for LHR-AMS-BRU-AMS-BHX so I could fly their B767-300ER one way, which was only about £20 more than BHX-AMS-BRU and return.

Depends how much money I happen to have at the time of booking. Though I now realise that the 111 euro flight was actually one way, with the return sector being 108 euros. I guess that's out the window then! Scrolling down a page is always a good idea...

Ahh, yeah I did think that was a bit cheap for KL. The best way would perhaps be to take a return trip from LHR to one of the destinations served with the F70, might cost £150rtn, but then you're getting four flights, up to two on the F70.

Quoting Boeing74741R (Reply 40):
What I want to know is, will MYT332 be attending or will he be too busy trying to blag more tours around TransPennine Express's depot in Ardwick.

Well I've been to Newton Heath, done Ardwick (you were there spying on me!) so maybe I'll try get in to Longsight next!  Wink

Quoting Gkirk (Reply 38):
Well, I shall be arrriving by train, direct all the way from Carlisle I suppose.

For the record, I was leaving while you was waiting in reception and then went straight into Manchester, so hardly spying!  Wink

That said, if you manage to blag a tour of Longsight I'll come join you!

Quoting HT (Reply 4):
Options for flights home on Monday are under evaluation: Might become a boring nonstop, but timings are just perfect.

After thorough consideration, I booked my flight home: The timings of the nonstop on BE were too tempting, getting me home in time for watering the garden in the evening (hopefully we have a hot summer by then - and I have found a way to fix my leaking swimming pool  crossfingers  )
