Best TV Shows Of The 2000s

Fri Jan 01, 2010 5:06 am

So, we have the best movies of the decade but what about TV? Here are mine (I've tried to limit this to shows that started in the 2000s, but you can include ones that started in other decades and run until now if you wish)

1. Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.
2. The Office (US version)
3. NCIS
4. The West Wing
5. Mythbusters

-Carnivale
-Six Feet Under

I have tons of favourites, but these are the ones that define my decade (although I only saw/am watching Deadwood/Carnivale later on).

Yes, Deb (not DeeDee!) never got to see Dexter's laboratory in the Showtime series ... although Deb was considerably prettier (although more foul-mouthed!) than Dee-dee!

Absolutely! Just watching Series 5 on DVD at the moment; it's just terrific. No one can do snobbishness and make it rib-ticklingly funny like Frasier (and Niles - particularly!)

As much as I like Band of Brothers it seems more like a mini-series to me.

In no order:
South Park (way better than the Simpsons)
Survivor (19 seasons in 9 years, consistently the best reality show on TV)
The Office
Mythbusters
The Sopranos
How I Met Your Mother
Lost

Really, no one put The Sopranos on their list?!

Six Feet Under had quite an effect on me - probably my favourite show of all to date.

Other favourites, in alphabetical order:

Family Guy
Frasier
Mad Men
The Office (UK and US versions)

I also recently discovered 30 Rock after watching a few episodes on a flight from MEL to LAX - great stuff!

As for locally produced stuff (apologies to the non-Australians who may not know these shows):

The Chaser's War on Everything
Kath & Kim
The Secret Life of Us
Summer Heights High
Underbelly

The Daily Show was good but I stopped watching when all they did was pick on Republicans. I'm no Repub, but it just got really, really annoying. They really started to show their true colors around mid-2008

- Actually it was a fabulous show, but it was a spin-off of sorts from another fantastic 30 minute Sit/Com called "Cheers" but that was a couple decades ago now

Quoting Zippyjet (Reply 34):
CSI Miami

Cold Case

- Those types of shows are a pain. There are some people out there that think the magic they pull off during their 60 minute show (that is actually only about 40 minutes of programming) is real and then call 911 telling police officers that, "You'll need the 'CSI Team' on this incident." Don't believe me, go to any mid-sized city's police department and ask them about the people that call in and ask the dumbest questions and it stems from watching these ficticious shows. OK, off my soap box now.

- For my time, "ESPN's SportsCenter." Knowledgable and entertaining. Usually not a waste of time. And anything that is not "Reality Television."

Surprised no one has mentioned all the reality shows since they really became a huge sensation over the last decade ....

- Jon and Kate Plus 8
- Super Nanny
- Wife Swap
- Big Brother
- The Apprentice
- The Bachelor/Bachelorette
- Survivor
- Fear Factor
- American Idol (or your countries respective title)

Personally, I can't stand any of them.
