The English language has a translation for words such as "Viertelfinale" (quarterfinals), "Halbfinale" (semifinals) and "Finale" (final), yet it is the only Western language in the world without a proper translation for "Achtelfinale".

In the city of York, it is legal to murder a Scotsman within the ancient city walls, but only if he is carrying a bow and arrow.
The average EU official - he has the organising ability of the Italians, the flexibility of the Germans and the modesty of the French. And that's topped up by the imagination of the Belgians, the generosity of the Dutch.

It is believed that Shakespeare was 46 around the time that the King James Version of the Bible was written. In Psalms 46, the 46th word from the first word is shake and the 46th word from the last word is spear.

That number is a conservative estimate.

If you fart consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb.

The strongest animal on the planet: the ant. It can lift over 50 times its own weight.

The sting of the common bee contains more venom then those of so-called killer bees. The reason killer bees are killer is because they attack in swarms.

Lastly, I read this one in a trivia book, maybe DocLightning or one of the other medical types on here could confirm if this is accurate:

What do male humans and male dogs have in common? Prostates.

I have tons more...

The ending "by" in the city's name Grimsby in the U.K. is of Norse/Danish origin meaning "Village" (of various size) Here: The village of Grim (a danish man's name).
The same ending still today is found in village's names in Denmark, Norway (as -byen --> "Longyearbyen" but also as word in itself: "Byen" as city center ) and extreme north of Germany (owing to a Danish history).

.
.
Speaking or "Danish" ...
"Danish" (the pastry) does not have its origin in Denmark but in Vienna, Austria.

China is the worlds leading grower, followed by India.

Quote:

Production of eggplant is highly concentrated, with 85 percent of output coming from five countries. China is the top producer (56% of world output) and India is second (26%); Egypt, Turkey and Indonesia round out the top producing nations. More than 4 million acres (2,043,788 hectares) are devoted to the cultivation of eggplant in the world.[6] In the United States, New Jersey is the largest producing state.
