Hi folks,

While flying over Canada, last month, more particularly the province of Quebec, I couldn't help noticing very long straight lines that have been clearly manmade across the forest. All covered in snow, you could clearly see the trees had been cut at that place.

Here you have a link to Google Maps
http://maps.google.ch/maps?f=q&sourc...072&spn=0.332771,0.885773&t=h&z=11
and you can see they are many meters wide.
Have tried to get information about these but didn't find any!
would anyone be able to tell me what these long straight lines that measure hundreds of kilometers are meant for

Those are Hydro Québec's high-tension transmission lines. You will find similar lines in the forests of British Columbia.

Google Maps- High Tension Transmission Lines in BC.

They're not quite as straight as they are in Québec as BC is severely mountainous and the transmission lines generally follow the valleys....

Quoting RootsAir (Thread starter):

I think they're power lines. If you zoom in more, you can clearly see smaller lines going across, all parallel. You can also see the lines crossing rivers really well, because of the color contrast.

The only thing that would make me not think that it was power lines is the fact that there are no shadows from the towers.

Try placing the yellow man on a road that crosses the lines. You can clearly see that powerlines are running along the long lines without trees. So I'd say this is due to powerlines.

Thanks a lot! folks !
Its incredible to see such long wide lines run acroos like that throughout the province. Must have certainly taken lots of time to ave the trees removed from those areas!
