Interesting GOP Fundraising Document Leaked

Fri Mar 05, 2010 4:10 pm

An interesting 72 GOP powepoint has been leaked that essentially mocks large donors to the party and suggests that the party capitalize on "fear" of Obama and socialism. Republican fearmongering? Say it ain't so. In essence, this document proves what many of us on the left have suspected for quite a while now, that the GOP is exploiting people's fears about socialism in order to gain political ground.

This story is from politico.com which will be poo-pooed by ever single right-winger on here. Putting that aside, I think what right-wingers need to be figuring out is: why are their party leaders telling everyone the Dems are the party of the elite and spending so much and out of touch with the average American when these right-wingers are hosting $2500 a plate lunches at resorts in Florida and week-long meetings at resorts in Hawaii. Is that really what the average American can afford? Is that really what the average American does in their spare time with all the loose change they have floating around?

With good reason. The first step in evaluating criticism to see if it is objective or not is, "Consider the source"

I don't see what this line of thinking has to do with anything. Conventions and conferences are often held at attractive destinaions. Even most third parties try to hold thier meetings at popular destinations. Its not like the Democrats are holding bag lunch meetings in Gary, Indiana.

Its a marketing plan. It is supposed to present methods for motivating people. I don't see why it should be so scandalous. I admit I am not enthusiastic about some of the moves towards centralization and socialism that I have seen. If someone claims to have a viable alternative, it would get my attention. Of course, I don't really believe that the Republican party in its current state is the right answer, but we will see what they come up with in the next year.

I take that with a large, very large, grain of salt. Most of the "right-wingers" who post in this forum are not merely garden variety conservatives; they are extremists who represent the far right reaches of the American political spectrum. It's hardly fair to judge American conservatives by reading posts from those occupying the margin of a political ideology.

My issue is: many right-wingers will absolutly not believe any single shred of anything unless the source is FOX news or Drudge or something similar. Any other source is branded as having a leftist agenda.

I have heard a lot of right-wingers in power say "Dems don't know what the average American is going through" and "Dem's don't understand how the unemployed and working class can not afford XYZ." Then, the republicans show how much they care and how they feel the pain of the "average" American by having conferences and dinners and such at fancy resorts. They say one thing and do the exact opposite. I never said Dems are blameless. I simply wanted to point out what republicans are doing.
