Haven't had or even seen RC since about 1982 so I can't even remember what it tastes like LOL!

Dr. Pepper

My personal favourite!

Quoting LOT767-300ER (Thread starter):
Fanta (European Orange/Lemon/Grapefruit etc) - The American one is garbage.

Fortunatly, we don't get the American version in Canada ... unfortunatly, the European version (orange is my favourite) costs about $1 for a can if they have some in the import stores.

Quoting LOT767-300ER (Thread starter):
AW Root Beer

Yup ... followed by Mug (haven't seen Fanta or Hires Root Beer for years, but those were good) ... Barq's doesn't even taste like Root Beer to me. Root Beer is supposed to be sweet and creamy.

The absloute worst is Mezzo Mix or Spezi which is Coke mixed with Orange Fanta .... blech!

Good stuff, but I like the Livewire better.

Fanta (European Orange/Lemon/Grapefruit etc) - The American one is garbage

I fell in love with European Orange Fanta when I went to Europe (thank God for Club Kitchen) but for some reason I persist in drinking the American version, which isn't bad, but the Euro version is so much better. It tastes more like orange, and not just orange flavored.

Quoting LOT767-300ER (Thread starter):
Cream Soda - AW in this case

Second best cream soda I've had. The best is the local Fitz's brand in St. Louis. That is great stuff, and their root beer is awesome too.

And my favorite around home is chocolate Coke. My hometown has an old style soda shop with different flavorings and chocolate is the best. Everyone else seems to hate it and as far as I know I am the only person in town who gets it, but it is pretty darn good.

That doesnt count, you can get the Euro version here too. In fact I am sipping on a 2 Liter of Lemonic Fanta imported from Poland right now (along with a beer of course). Costs about $3,29 at my local supermarket.

One of the first things I do whenever I visit Greece is purchase a bottle of Fanta Orange and and a bottle of Fanta Lemonade. IMHO, European fanta is the best soft drink on the market. In Greece they make have an additional flavor that was quite good, but I can't recall what it was. Maybe tangerine.

The Fanta flavors vary, im pretty sure theres more than 50 of them...I see in Poland all the time Grapefruit and Blackcurrant Fanta which is delicious.

That being said, I hate the fact that no one knows black currants in the US and is banned from growing in most states.

I think they have some chemical that hasnt been tested by the FDA or some other BS.

Red Currant juice isnt as good though, we have this Lithuanian stuff I believe"Ribez rdeci" or some other variation marketed by Caprio and its only decent.

I also cannot stand American Apple Juice, I dont know what it is about it but its just terrible, bad enough that I buy imported for 2-3x the price especially when I mix with Bison Grass Vodka.

Another thing I dont really see is Gooseberries.

On a sidenote I was always a fan of Mirinda, not much really known in the US, I havent even seen it even at most Euro delis but I prefer the orange flavor to orange fanta.

Nothing strange. Just crisp, guilt-free (has been a diet drink only for decades) refreshment. Also, the only soda I know of that was dispensed in the Oval Office.

That said, the Peach and Black Cherry ones are sacrilegious (and not that tasty). Its all about the original.

Mountain Dew is a favourite of mine - unfortunately it's not sold ANYWHERE in the UK, at least not close to me because I'd spot that green can a mile away. I love it. I've had it in Denmark, it's sold in train stations. I bought 6 cans in Buddinge Train Station (For the locals) at something like 10DKK each because I can't get it anywhere else. The cashier did look at me rather strangely

Diet Coke No Caffeine is another - I can't drink the full fat version because it leaves me bouncing off the walls for hours. I've missed entire nights of sleep because I've had 1 can 8 hours before I got into bed. I don't drink a lot of caffeine so it has a very profound effect on me. It does taste more bitter, definitely but it's a small price to pay.

As for the fanta thing we have in this thread - I can agree. America, your fanta sucks. Import ours instead

I am also a fan of Big Red and Big Red Vanilla Float:

Anything made with real sugar. None of this corn syrup crap that American companies use for their US products. Real sugar stuff actually tastes noticeably better than corn syrup--my folks--both born and bred Americans--can't stand the taste of Pepsi or Coke, but they love the stuff when its made with real sugar.

My problem with Mountain Dew is that it reminds me of college. Rather than drink coffee or become addicted to red bull and god knows what else energy drinks, I used Mountain Dew to help keep me up. I affectionately referred to it as my rocket fuel, but the only problem with that is that now I think it tastes like rocket fuel.
I've gone cold turkey off of it since college, but will probably be IV'ing the stuff when I start law school in the fall. Am not looking forward to it, but I figure I might as well stick with what works.

Blackcurrants were banned from being grown in the US in 1909 because they were the host for the White Pine Blister Rust, which caused a lot of harm in some areas to the timber industry because the pines did not have a genetic resistance to the fungus that causes it. The Federal gov't shifted the responsibility of the ban to the states in 1966, and some states in recent years have lifted the ban.

It's still around (It may have been distributed in your area at that by Coke, as in some markets, they [or Pepsi] distribute 7-Seven/Dr. Pepper.), it's just harder to find in some parts of the country. I can still find it here in Atlanta with no problem at all.

Much better tasting than Diet Coke, as the formula for Coke Zero is the same formula for regular Coke, just with different sweetening agents. Diet Coke, contrary to popular belief, is a much different formula than Coke.

I've become of fan of Pepsi Max as well. The Pepsi Max sold here in the US and Canada is not the same one sold over overseas.

Started drinking both these in 1999 when my folks bought a place in Belem, Portugal.

I was wondering when someone would post Guarana, awesome stuff!

Love Guarana! But not a big fan of their diet version.

I would also like to add these 2:

San Pellegrino Limonata

San Pellegrino Aranciata

Still can't get the taste of San Pellegrino Chinotto.

Depends on where you're from. I'm from the midwest and it was always POP or even SODAPOP.

Yes, I know that. I wasn't being (completely) serious.

So who remembers OK Soda?
I'm watching Jeopardy. The category is worst Madonna songs. "This one from 1987 is terrible".

Diet Coke No Caffeine is another - I can't drink the full fat version because it leaves me bouncing off the walls for hours. I've missed entire nights of sleep because I've had 1 can 8 hours before I got into bed

How do you drink Mountain Dew then? It has 1.5 times the caffeine.

Quoting ajd1992 (Reply 16):
Mountain Dew is a favourite of mine - unfortunately it's not sold ANYWHERE in the UK, at least not close to me because I'd spot that green can a mile away.

You in London? If so, PM me. I know where you can get it.

Quoting Sabena332 (Reply 18):

I am drinking it at the moment, it is my favorite soda and fortunately available here in Germany since beginning of this month. I just bought the last two bottles at my local gas station, I will drink them now while watching Bundesliga.

Hopefully, you learned from that experience when you drank half the case in an hour.
Quoting mayor (Reply 24):

I also like Coke Classic (absent the original).

It is the original.

Quoting srbmod (Reply 26):
Diet Coke, contrary to popular belief, is a much different formula than Coke.

Yep. New Coke was actually based on the Diet Coke formula.

I loved it when I found Diet IRN BRU. Sooooooooo good.

Yes. Awful stuff.

Whenever I go back to Michigan, I love to drink Vernors and Faygo. I know both can be had out here, but they are more of a specialty and come in small expensive bottles.

Vernors is available here. Really cheap too.

It is an acquired taste.

Yes. Mexicans drink that stuff by the gallons though.

Brilliant drink, and so iconic. Love it so much I actually did my second year university project on the stuff...

Ha! On Friday I had my first Mountain Dew since I was in the US in 2008... I bought a can of it for 55p in a Halal shop in Oxford, and I'll be going back for more. It's actually imported from Syria, which means it's made with real sugar rather than HFCS, and I reckon it tastes better.

Yes, nowadays I am very carefull with it, I am drinking it slowly despite it is quite hard considering the great taste.

And yes, IrnBru is another drink I really like.

Does anyone know IncaCola (or InkaCola) from Peru? Someone told me that it is tasting like bubble gum. I must try to get this drink!

Sunkist made with real sugar. I've gotten it from a gas station in Russellville, AL but never seen it anywhere else. For that matter, I can't stand HFCS. I think it has a bitter taste and I don't like the mouthfeel of it, especially the aftertaste and that nasty clinging coating that it leaves in your mouth.

Also, thumbs up for Sun Drop, the "Golden Girl Cola," the original Mountain Dew-style drink:

I don't know if it is still available, I didn't see it since years. But I have to say that it was ok for me, it was kind of a "trend-drink" in the mid-90's, there were Afri Cola promotions in almost every disco and on almost every party. The had a slogan like: "Double caffein for extra long nights". They also made a very good tasting orange lemonade called "Bluna".

There's definitely a difference. I always drink light or zero and the rare times I drink regular coke, there's most definitely a difference.

Another drink I forgot is "Sparletta" (a green colored cream-soda I had in South Africa), I wish it would be available here in Germany.

And does anyone know "Sinalco". Their cola-plum mix is pretty awesome but I also like their famous orange lemonade.

I haven't had it in over 2 years. I'd probably be wired for a week if I drank it now. I'm not able to get hold of it now, so when I do actually have it it's not like I drink it for a long period of time.

Unfortunately not, I'm 200 miles north near Liverpool. I plan on going to London for a day trip soon though, so I'd still appreciate the location.

In the UK, it is all about Pepsi for me:

Although, I am also a fan of both Dr Pepper, and Fanta Lemon:

Now when it comes to Spain, Kas Lemon and Orange is the way to go:

But, when I am in the US, I can get my favourite drinks:
Pibb Xtra:

Mountain Dew:

Sierra Mist:

And from when I was younger I used to love drinking Surge and Slice when in the USA.

Kev.
