I've Just Rung My Second Quater Peal

Wed May 19, 2010 10:12 pm

This will mean absolutely nothing to anyone on here since I have found no bell ringers but what it basically means is I've stood in the same place for 45 minutes pulling on a rope. Wow I have such fun with my life. Anyhow, went down the pub afterwards so all is well. Basically you must complete approximately 1,200 changes to complete a quarter or 5,000 to complete a full peal. This takes about 3 hours.

One question:

Why?
I'm watching Jeopardy. The category is worst Madonna songs. "This one from 1987 is terrible".

Bell ringing is quiet an ancient thing here in the UK is bell ringing.

I always wanted to have a go at it in the church next to where I used to go to School/

Cool, thanks.

Do you do it whenever you have the time? Is it a special occasion or something?

Just curious - I've never really heard of this stuff.

Campanology, is that the word?

Sure, we're concerned for our lives. Just not as concerned as saving 9 bucks on a roundtrip to Ft. Myers.

There wasn't really a reason for it yesterday but one of the ringers wanted to have a go ringing inside. I rang the heaviest bell and it wasn't too bad. The word is campanology although nobody ever uses it. And yes, it really is quite boring and tedious standing in the same place pulling on a rope. And no, I'm not deaf, since there's a stone ceiling and 70ft between us ringers and the bells.
