The US boys have proven they can score – one, two, three times in one game. England, on the other hand, has even struggled against Algeria. I think it will be difficult to win the match against Slovenia. I execpt a clear win on the part of the USA... 2-0 should be possible and sufficient to kick out the English and move on in the tournament!

I think Germany will pull this off against Ghana, as will Serbia against Australia. So my guess for the second set of matches in the round of 16 is as follows:

Slovenia vs Serbia
USA vs Germany

Alright its make or break time for Team USA. My predictions:

United States 2:0 Algeria
England 1:1 Slovenia

Germany 1:1 Ghana
Australia 1:0 Serbia

Another blown offsides call against the US? This just adds fuel to the fire as to why I dislike soccer. There aren't enough goals scored to blow these calls.

GO USA!

I don't believe it. The US team is again denied a goal that should've counted.
If this happens once, it is bad enough. If twice, it is outrageous! I hope they'll be able score
another goal, especially since England is in the lead right now.

WHAT A GAME! And what a goal! So it's USA-Ghana? Serbia? (I assume Germany will win tonight, so no USA-Germany I believe)

I have a question though:

Mexicans are good at soccer. USA is full of Mexicans. No Mexicans in the US soccer team (at least I'm not seeing any?) Something doesn't add up?

It's not really a massively genetic thing. Americans and Mexicans are mostly European and Africans, it's just the culture why the US aren't world beaters, so a Mexican brought up in the US will have that US culture.

Given their population and wealth, if they took it seriously the US would no doubt be a fantastic team.

There are a couple of Mexican-Americans on the team, but who cares? They decided to play for the US, so that makes them Americans in my book.

Gosh that match was stressful! I watch at work on my computer, but keep the sound off, so when he actually scored, I had to hold off my celebration until I saw that the players were all rushing toward Donovan and the goal was in fact allowed. Then, to make sure my office mates didn't know I was wasting work time, did a silent celebration.

Wow, what an exciting goal!

Amazing finish!!! Team USA definitely deserved to win that game so its a good thing that in the end justice was served. I can't imagine the out-pour if the game had ended in a tie because of yet another blown call by the referees.

USA! USA! USA!

I came in from the golf course and saw the game was nothing about 85 minutes in, and watched the end of the game (I'm watching the whole game now as I recorded while I was at the course). Great save by Howard just before the US goal seconds later.

I for one am really happy that the France team are out of the competition.
That team took did not miss a single chance to ridicule themselves at every level.

The FIFA should really think of selecting AS Monaco instead of France in the next World Cup.

The general tenor of French media and political criticism of the predominantly black French football squad is that they have humiliated France.

The writer and philosopher Alain Finkielkraut described the French team as "not a team at all, but a gang of hooligans that knows only the morals of the mafia".

http://blogs.ft.com/rachmanblog/2010...nd-frances-mutinous-football-team/
Most of the French team are black - including Nicolas Anelka, the player who was sent home and Patrice Evra, the captain, who clashed with his fitness trainer and then took part in the boycott of training. Most of the politicians and journalists who are denouncing the team for betraying the nation are white.

Germany in the lead. Interesting (or not!)/ Ghana suill in qualifying position as they've scored more than Serbia. But if Australia score 2 more goals, it's going to be Australia going through! Never thought they'd be 2-0 up.

So if Oz wins and Ghana doesn't score, will the Socceroos advance? They've covered the goal spread, right?

No..If Australia beats Serbia by a goal differential of 3 in this game and Ghana doesn't win then and only then do they advance.

Just a few more minutes until it's confirmed Germany and Ghana will go through, Australia 3rd, Serbia 4th.

All change with Serbia scoring.

It now has to be a 5-1 win for Australia for them to qualify. Serbia need a draw. And Ghana are waiting now they've lost

Ah, I thought it was just goals fielded, not differential. That makes much more sense.

Too bad for the Socceroos, it was a great show, and much more exciting for me thinking they were going to advance and play the US.

So in that vein is Côte d'Ivoire dead? If they slaughter DPK in the same manner Portugal did and Brazil shuts down Portugal will they advance (a bit of a long shot I know, but the announcers seemed pretty convinced Ghana would be the only African nation to advance).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_FIFA_World_Cup_Group_G

If Brazil beats Portugal...Brazil goes through and:

Portugal will advance unless the combined margin of victory of Brazil and Côte d'Ivoire either is more than nine, or is nine and Côte d'Ivoire score at least seven goals more than Portugal in their respective last matches. If the combined margin of victory is nine and Côte d'Ivoire score exactly six more goals than Portugal, drawing of lots will decide the qualifier.

Not yet, but they are on very heavy life support!

If Brazil wins from Portugal and Ivory Coast manage to make more goals then Portugal then it's possible. But of course it does mean that Ivory Coast have to score at least 7 goals, more if Portugal scores against Brazil.

It's hardly surprising the pc gestapo at BBC is yet again trying to make pyramid out of a molehill and make a "racial" issue out of something it is clearly not, especially the second interview is completely off-topic.
The runner-up world champion being sent home, ending up last in the group because the team disintegrated itself, disrespected the coach or vice versa, organized a strike (does anyone need a better proof of genuine Frenchness than that?) and behaved not like a team but like a bunch of egoistic primadonnas. Isn't that sufficient reason for the media to drag them through the mud?

According to a French colleague the whole thing is a big scandal, which includes excessively expensive hotel rooms for those primadonnas (at more than 600 Euros per night). According to him most French want to fire the whole team including coach and support staff.
