Quoting Sabena332 (Reply 4): So does your passport really state "English", "Scottish", "Welsh" etc.? |
Quoting ndebelebev (Reply 6): Mine says I am British... |
Quoting ndebelebev (Reply 8): Our place of birth is in our Passport but nothing that says I am English. |
Quoting ndebelebev (Reply 8): I'd send you a screen shot but I don't think its wise posting it on here.. Lol.. |
Quoting Sabena332 (Reply 9): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_passport some days ago and after reading it, I was asking myself: "Well, all of them are British. Why do some play for England, the others for Scottland, others for Wales, etc...?". |
Quoting CPH-R (Reply 10): Because FIFA has decided to recognize the English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish football teams as seperate teams. In some sports you have them competing seperately, and in others they are a combined Great Britain (the Olympics for instance). In the same vein, you have the Faroe Islands competing on their own away from the Danish national team, as does Greenland - though the latter are not a member of FIFA since they don't have any grass pitches to play on... |

Quoting LTU932 (Reply 13): I also recall that there was a Home Championship |
Quoting iakobos (Reply 14): Northern Ireland is not a part of Great Britain |
Quoting signol (Reply 17): Something very similar is being started next year, the 4 Associations Tournament - without England |
Quoting Sabena332 (Thread starter): What are the requirements to play in the English/Scottish/Welsh/Northern Ireland national football tems? |
Quoting signol (Reply 17): Indeed, the inclusive term for the country including NI is the UK. The Olympic team called "Team GB" includes Northern Irish athletes who wish to be part of the team, other NI athletes can choose to represent Ireland. |
Quoting ajd1992 (Reply 24): Once you have played for 1 of the 4 national teams of the UK you can't play for another though, so pick a good one and stick to it |
Quoting [email protected] (Reply 21): Just think how great the British team would have been if you could combine the best players from England, Wales, Northern Ireland... And if Scotland has footballplayers, maybe even they could join in? |
Quoting Andz (Reply 27): The national rugby league team is Great Britain. |
Quoting ndebelebev (Reply 3): And anyhow half the German squad don't have German names anymore... |
Quoting david_itl (Reply 12): We also have seemingly strange situation that Ryan Giggs actually played at Schoolboy level for England - born Cardiff, raised in Salford and never thought about playing for any international team other than Wales. |
Quoting [email protected] (Reply 21): And if Scotland has footballplayers, maybe even they could join in? |
Quoting metroliner (Reply 22): You need to be in the top 5% of underachievers in your league to play for England. |
Quoting KiwiRob (Reply 26): If your forget the girlie sport of soccer |
Quoting N1120A (Reply 30): Scotland has football players...they are just impossible to ply away from the sheep |
Quoting N1120A (Reply 30): Emile Heskey |
Quoting N1120A (Reply 30): Quoting ndebelebev (Reply 3): And anyhow half the German squad don't have German names anymore... Oh don't start that. Only Cacau wasn't born in Germany. |
