BA1327 Meet - 26 July (NCL-LHR B744 Flight)

Thu Jul 01, 2010 6:17 pm

Seeing as this is going to be a memorable event, I thought it's own 'meet' thread would be a good idea.....

There's just over 3 weeks until this flight occurs, believed to be the first B744 domestic flight (scheduled) in the UK since...... well ever?

Why is the flight using a B744?

See this thread..... NCL 75th Birthday 26th July (by sean377 Jun 28 2010 in Civil Aviation)

Anyway, I hope some of you are interested in this trip and will make some sort of effort to attend. As I post this, the flight costs £30.50 for the one way trip including all takes.

The fare is actually £5, plus £25.50 taxes/fees/charges!!!!

Hope to see you there, and on board!

I'm flying the LHR-NCL leg as well, every other flight to NCL out of London is similarly priced, and I can't be bothered making the trip to STN to get a £22 staff travel flight, for fear it will be delayed, I've just decided upon that. So me and Duna will be flying up together, and I'll just meet you all in the departure lounge probably?

Hi Glenn,

Sounds good. I should get to BRS about 02:30am by coach - a bit early but it's the only one there is. There's coaches every hour or so on the LHR-Bristol route, reasonable fares too. If it's BRS itself you've got to get back to then you'd have to catch the Bristol Flyer back out to the airport, takes about 45 mins from the coach station and costs £6 IIRC.

Hope to see you there!

Which means first catching a coach to Reading, or taking the Heathrow Express/Tube/Bus into London. Would take you the same amount of time or longer in the end

I won't be on the flight itself, but there is a good chance I'll be somewhere at NCL for the event. Terminal building, rwy threshold, newly erected viewing area... depends which gives the best view and is most easy to access on the day.

As NCL was one of my two 'home' airports and this is a significant event, I'm condisering flying LHR-NCL on the B744 and NCL-DXB on the B77W. The connection should work if I check-in online for the EK flight. Hopefully I can just about manage 2 days away from work.

I'll be joining Glenn and Dan on the easyJet flight from BRS up to Newcastle too.

Oh, and Glenn: I will also be travelling back to Bristol on the Monday afternoon. Luckily I get free travel on the train though- so that's how I'll be getting back.

I'm a bit worried about getting from TGM to The Renaissance after a few beers! Getting to Jury's half-cut involves a few small fences and some farmyard animals...

The Renaissance involves somewhat higher fences and 2 active runways, not the mention dodging the British Transport Police!

Guess it's a piss up.

A little situation update regarding the aircraft being used. It'll be a high J B744 with F/J and WT+ all blocked off. Essentially, it'll have less Y seats than an A321.

And I quote from the friend I received this information from:

"and because the system can't handle it, it (online seat pre-selection) wont be getting 'switched on' for preselecting via manage my booking, it keeps putting people up in first cause it's just allocating like it would on any domestic from 1A backwards and then it has to be undone manually."

Seems seats will be selectable from when OLCI opens.

haha, I'm not flying over just for the NCL-LHR trip. I'll be back in England for 6-8 weeks.

Will the B744 be parked on a remote stand as the EK B773ER will be in at the same time.

Is BRS-NCL usually an A319 or could we see the A320?

I believe so.

It's an A319 for all the mornings I can see, the 320s are being sent on summer sun duties.

Yes, EK get priority over BA

So it'll be pissing it down and you'll get bussed to your plane...

I seem to recall some people being booked in WT+ already, so are they now going to be downgraded or is that erroneous?

Well according to my friend who contacted BA, they said that originally people were selecting seats in the premium cabins- but this was a fault with the system- so they had to be removed manually.

On a train from Skipton via Leeds ... SAA738

Are you by any chance getting the Transpennine train from Leeds that arrives NCL at 0948?

No, getting an East Coast train which arrives in Newcastle at 08:39 from Leeds. Then getting the Metro from Newcaslte to NCL (dep : 08:52, arr 09:19). We're flying back up North from LGW-LBA on the evening Flybe flight.

According to Wikipedia it's the only InterCity 125 (or HST) route that doesn't start or end in London Kings Cross.

Booked my flights to the UK. Will be arriving into Manchester on the 20th July.

Anybody else arriving at NCL around 09:19 ??

Hmm, none of CrossCountry's end up there that's for sure.

If EZY is an hour an nine minutes late, yes.

As you know, I'm flying into NCL on the 744, but I'm thinking about joining the flight back to LHR.

What time does check-in close for BA domestic flights out of NCL?

If I've previously checked in online, what's the latest I can go back through security for boarding?

You should be okay to do that. You'll have 80 minutes between the flights, so as long as you're pretty quick about it, you should be able to get through.

If you don't get held up at security with the 300 + Emirates pax, however many are booked on the 744, 235 TCX pax etc etc

Of course, I didn't really think of that circumstance- I just assumed it'd be pretty easy going my previous experiences.

However, I'm lead to believe that its possible to do a DIY airside transfer at NCL? Not that I will of course, but it may be useful for the poster above.

It's an A319, G-EZIV.

A320s are very rarely used on domestic routes sadly. Infact, I don't think I've ever seen one do a domestic run.

Stop being such a spoil sport Kirky, just cause you're not going

If they take a leaf out of Gatwick's book, they'll let 'late' pax through the fast track, and I'm gonna buy one of those passes you was on about
