Have used this one several times over a couple of years now. A photo I took down by the harbour in my hometown in Norway.

Computer Desktop:

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a296/GlobetrottingDan/Desktpo.jpg

Actual Desktop:

The area behind the monitor doubles as a notice board, so it gets a bit cluttered. Been working on a few sketches to illustrate a design concept I'm working on, so there is still baking paper and plans taped to the desk.

Nice touch with the extended LOTR DVDs there.
Also, that's a quite tidy mess around your monitor...

Yes the noticeboard gets more '3D' by the day, thanks to all the little design snippets and notes I stick on it, plus boarding passes. It'll get sorted out this time next week when I can round up all university work and box it. The monitor base is actually covered in a 'beach' of pebbles and shells, as I normally take one every time I go to a real beach and needed somewhere to put them. The only problem is if the bass from my music dislodges one and it falls into my coffee, especially if I don't realise

Similar to Elementary. I like keeping it simple, although I'm thinking of a glossier theme for next month.

I like your dock, BTW - the newest version of AWN?

I see a few Ubuntu users here, been tempted to try it out but can't be bothered, or should I?

And NO I will never switch to Mac, as much as OSX is based on Linux/Unix

Anyways,

Well as they say, if it ain´t broke don´t fix it. I can´t stand Windows, that is why I ended up using and loving Ubuntu.

BTW, I would have thought your background would have been some hot chick. HAHA, your reputation precedes my friend.. HAHA

The only issue I have is the non-compatible Windows programs and the installing of programs. A quick read should solve that.

Aside from that, Ubuntu is a great OS. I use it to program with Java and when I don't want the hassle of Windows.

I'm going to agree with the captain on this one, if you "can't be bothered" you probably won't be a good fit for Ubuntu (or any other Linux distribution). You need to be willing to learn to use a new OS and deal with the (inevitable) glitches.

That being said...
One of the nice things about Ubuntu (and many other Linux distros) is that you can try them out live without having to make any changes to your existing system - they will boot and run from a USB stick or CD/DVD. The performance won't be as good as an install to your hard drive, but you can get a taste for the OS and bundled software. Ubuntu can also be installed within Windows (and without making any changes to your Windows partition) using a program called Wubi.

I switched to Linux mainly due to budget constraints and the fact that it runs better on my aging hardware than Win XP. I stay with Linux because I like the FOSS philosophy, the community, the ease of software installation, the (relative) lack of bloat compared to Windows, the low vulnerability to virus/malware attacks and the configurability.
