Trump Sets His Sights On The White House

Tue Oct 05, 2010 7:37 pm

Donald Trump, the U.S. property magnate and reality television host, has declared his interest in running for president, saying that "somebody has to do something, because we are losing this country".

Speaking on morning television, Mr Trump said: "I've had so many people over the years ask me to do that [run for president] and for the first time in my life I am absolutely thinking about it.

In the interest of "full disclosure", would Mr. Trump be required to abandon his thoroughly unconvincing comb-over and semi-regular henna rinses?

Just more fuel for the MSNBC spin machine. In fact I was watching Tamron Hall interviewing him and she couldn't help but keep asking Trump to blame Bush for the state of affairs we are in. It was a funny moment but he isn't going to run, he is just putting a lot of people on notice that a formidable figure in business is not buying into the Obama vision. I found it refreshing.

This man is so wealthy he could finance his own presidential campaign. He would not need donations from the Goldman Sachs and other Big Corp like Obama and Bush and other candidates. He could finance it all off himself to compete against other candidates. I have no idea if he is a honest person or where he comes from or his background. Didn't he lose it all and then went back up to where he was? He could certainly change his hair style. It would do him a lot of good.

Dear God no. If he wants to see losing the country, having to add his drama to what's already going to be a nasty two years of campaigning would certainly do it.

I'd rather see Bloomberg make a run - he'd bring a similar background but with less of the baggage, and he actually knows how to run a government.

Is there no end to the current plague of egocentric billionaires wandering into the political arena?

We The People just keep getting scr%#ed, while the people with the "big money" and their "special interest" backers buy their way into public office.
Oh, but I forgot----that's the "American" way!

Would be a stretch, he is a big fat cat billionaire that the Dems are trying to get us to hate. Now all of a sudden he is fit to lead? He has a better chance than Trump but doubt he can get the nomination.

Yanno what? It might finally get the American people to lose interest in the President's personal life because the thought of Donald Trump getting laid is just too much for any of us to handle.

In all honesty, I'd be interested to hear his platform. You might trash him but he is one of the world's most successful businessmen. So he definitely knows a thing or two about managing large operations.

Is he a puffed-up egomaniac? Yes. Please name one President since WWII who wasn't... (Carter?)

I don't care about his personality and I most certainly don't care who he's schtupping (and I'd rather not know). I just want to know if he can do a better job than Obama or any GOP candidate.

Excellent point and as much as I hate to say it, I'd value his economic message before any community organizer.
I voted for Obama so I can say this.

Donald Trump's biggest problem would be getting past the primaries as a Republican or Democrat.
The hard-core Christian fundamentalist, tea party, social conservatives has taken over the Republican party so he wouldn't win as a Republican.
The Democrats would reject him mainly because of the feminist and too many are still blindly in love with President Obama. He would do best as an Independent but even his money isn't enough to keep up with the special interest money from both Democrat and Republican parties.

BTW, he had the best proposal for Ground Zero.

Quoting DocLightning (Reply 16):

Spot on!
Do keep in mind, if you are wealthy as he is, have multiple beautiful women, your own airline with your name on it and skyscrapers with your name on it and your own popular game show, it would be hard not to have some sort of ego. He is entitled to to have one because he worked hard for it.

I'm sick in tired of boring and false images of the wholesome family man as President.
Donald Trump is a great role model and someone who deserves a lot more credit than he gets.

The U.S. of A. would have to be way down deep in bankruptcy to sell the White House.
I don't think Trump would come out as the highest bidder if it ever happened.
I think Roman Abramovich might have more chances than him to buy it offf - moneywise.

Maybe Schwarzy will also want the job. Trump will not be alone.

Thre question is:
Would he be a Churchill or a Berlusconi?
Churchill insisted that he would have enough wealth from the books he published before entering politics to guarantee that he could be politically independent and not depending on income through his political office.

Berlusconi on the other hand used his political office to change laws in favour of his business empire.

Yes but we are going deeper down the crapper and will be in a worse state in 4 years unless the GOP can stop the Dem hold on congress. Tamron was shocked Trump put some of the blame on Obama. It was funny. She thought Trump would play along with the Bush bashing and when he didn't she reacted. Before everyone gets excited about the idea of The Donald as President, I'd just point out that while he is good at building and marketing, his track record as a manager is decidedly mixed - several of his companies have gone through Chapter 11. Trump Entertainment Resorts, the operator of his Atlantic City casinos, filed in 2009 and AFAIK is still in Ch 11. And he tried to argue that the financial crisis was an "Act of God" to get out of a payment on his Chicago project at the end of 2008.

I can think of worse choices for President, though...Nanny Bloomberg, for one.

He does have an ability to tap into the popular culture, though, and not just in entertainment...look at the pictures in Superfly's post above. See the one where he's standing next to a model of the World Trade Center? As the proposals for rebuilding the WTC after 9/11 began to emerge, polls consistently showed a majority of New Yorkers wanted the Twin Towers rebuilt, and Trump was a major driver in the movement to try to get that done instead of Pataki's damned "Freedom Tower", now known just as One World Trade. He failed, but earned some goodwill with that.

But he would have to get something done about that hair.

He may not make a good President since he would have to work with Congress to get anything done which would conflict greatly with his ego but his ideas on dumping diplomats in favor of business types to hammer out trade agreements is absolutely dead on.

I don't care who sucks his dick, what he's smoking on his own time, or where he goes (or doesn't) to church. I care that he runs the country well. That's all.
