I don't know. Does anyone know why on Earth we haven't eradicated the alligator/crocodile populations in the first place? Seriously, what reasons for existence do these filthy walking bear traps have for being around anyway?

I clicked through the Post article to the original story, and they've had turtles in there many times before and the gators have never bothered them. And the gator had just been fed, too. So in their defence, they honestly did not think this would be a problem.

Well, in Florida they eat miniature poodles, which are the most annoying creatures on Earth other than telemarketers, from time to time. So they do serve at least one redeeming purpose.

Those Floridian turtles are nasty. We had some when I was a kid and they would try to eat your fingers, and our cat too !
It was a common pet in the 80's, and millions ended up released in the wild when they got too big (not mine, they got back to the shop, well, maybe they did after all ! no gators to eat them unfortunately), causing ecological problems, including the almost extinction of local turtles.
So I would have applauded seeing this !

Well, as much as I think this would be a horribly traumatic experience for the poor little boy, something about the way this article is written makes me laugh. It's like a terrible parody of bad news, except it's real!

This happened on an episode of Hey Arnold when Arnold accidentally killed Eugene's fish (Eugene always had horrible things happening to him, often because of Arnold, though Arnold wasn't doing it on purpose). After spending the day trying to make it up to him, he decides to adopt an angelfish for him at the local aquarium. So he takes Eugene down to see it, and once Eugene looks away a shark swoops in and takes it away. Then when Eugene turns back and asks where it went, Arnold just tells him it swam to the other side of the tank!

On Hey Arnold? I don't remember anything like that. There was a Simpsons episode in which Bart accidentally kills a bird and then tries to protect its eggs, only for the eggs to be those of a lizard species that eat birds, and when the birdwatchers try to kill the lizards, Bart saves them and they go on to kill all of the annoying birds in Springfield. Maybe you were thinking of that?
