What Does Your Signature Mean To You

Sat Jan 29, 2011 1:20 pm

A little while back we had a thread on why members chose a particular screen name. Some members also have a "signature" and while some may seem obvious, others are not. Mine represents that I believe that our journey in life can be rewarding if we embrace change and look at things with a positive attitude. In other words, don't just sit around whinging.

So what does your signature mean to you or why was it chosen?

Mine refers to the Falstaff Brewing Corporation's executive aircraft. The had two DC-3s (C-53) and a CV-240 resgistered at N503. Of course they didn't have all three at once. The "Mug Slaketh Over" is a advertsing slogan Falstaff used in 1967.

I have a massive collection of Falstaff Beer memoribilia; 100 or so lighted signs, 100 or so non lighted signs, massive amounts of knick knacks, cans, bottles, paper from the HQ, brewery parts, etc from 1933-1975.

Mine? Well, it should be fairly obvious but I'll explain for the little ones. You have to grow old, because unless someone invents a regeneration tank or the Elixr of Life it ain't gonna stop. However, there is absolutely no reason why you should grow up, get serious, grey and miserable.

Of course, many of you do, which is why there are so many long winded, boring and slighty scary threads on here (some from some very old teenagers too!   )

Me, well, I try very hard not to act my age, more my shoe size (9 UK) which annoys my kids, my wife and most of the rest of my generation.

Mine is base on the fact that the greatest and most important lessons in life, that I have learned, happened from the mistakes I have made in life. I see the direct effects of whatever and wisely, and fortunately, learned from it. The mistakes in my life are a big part of why I am the man I am today. I could wish that I hadn't made any mistakes but I would not be a wiser and better man.

The key thing is, you have to LEARN from your mistakes! I know plenty of people that don't.

Mine comes from the Bahá'í writings, and is about the unity of humanity, which is something I feel very strongly about, and something which is greatly assisted by civil aviation.

I chose my signature for two reasons. First, RW was the very first airline I ever flew. For the younger members, RW was an airline that existed way back in the 1900's.    Second, I chose it because I've always thought of it as a clever little slogan.

I see trees of green
Red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed days the dark sacred nights
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shaking hands
Saying how do you do
They're really saying I love you
I hear babies crying I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Mine comes from a posting on engrish.com.

"Do not bring stranger girt into your room. The stranger girt is dangerous. It will hurt your life."

Of course, it was supposed to say "girl" and not girt, and I kinda think its meaning is self-explanatory...

My signature is a line (and title) from one of the best songs ever written by one of the best bands on the planet, taken from their 2004 album "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb".....

Of course that would be "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own" by U2

My signature embodies the whole of my being. It is my life, my essence, my reason for existing. It is my watchword, my motto, and my slogan. My soundtrack, my very soul. It is not a mere representation of myself, it IS me. I am embodied in my signature and it is embodied in me, in the way I live my life, in the way I...

"Lightning" is a name I picked up back when I was in the rave scene. At the time I was very adept at handling various glow toys. I can spin poi, liquid with glowsticks, spin flags, fire, etc. I also have this suit that's covered in EL glow wire that makes me look like a walking lightning storm. So I got the name "Lightning."

Since then, I've actually been renamed "Dr. Blitz," (long story) but this handle still holds.
