I have had some trouble with my 2008 Jetta recently. If the car sits in hot weather (75+ degrees) for several hours I have a hard time starting it. I have found that it will start better if I press the gas about half way down while cranking. It doesn't seem to be vapor lock because it only occurs if it has been sitting for several hours or more.
Other than that, the car starts great. Any ideas what this could be?

2.5L or TDI? There is a recall on the fuel line for 06-10 2.5L Jettas - may not be the problem but something to look into. The Mk4s had a starter disengage problem, but I don't think that affects your Mk5. There are also various TSBs out in regards to the fuel system you may want to look into.
Either than that, could very well be the fuel pump or fuel pump solenoid or other related issues or you just might need to get a fuel induction flush or fuel filter (IIRC, the TDis need a fuel filter change every 20 000 miles). Spend some time checking out VW forums ... tons of useful info on them.

Could also be a 2.0T. Sounds something fuel related if by pressing the gas pedal resolves the issues. VWVortex is a great place to go if you need help in a hurry, but be prepared to get lots of people giving you a hard time if you just post a question right off.

Which is exactly when vapor lock would happen
Otherwise, I'm guessing its just some random fuel system issue. Does it run rough at all?
Also, next time do us a favor and post the exact engine type, mileage, and other more specific details.

Vortex is a great forum, personally, if I ever have any issues with any of my vehicles ... forums is the first place I always go and start snooping around to see if others have had the same problem ... most of the the time I don't even need to make a post myself, just a bit of searching and reading.
