Show Us Your Non-av Photos Q2/2011

Fri Jun 10, 2011 8:17 pm

Q1/2011 thread was starting to get a little bit long and it was time to get a new thread up and running.

Simple rules the same as before, please only post your own photos, try and add a little about the photo or reason for taking the photo and play nice.

Here's a link to Q1/2011 Show Us Your Non-av Photos Q1/2011 (by MWHCVT Apr 5 2011 in Non Aviation)

I am still going strong on my 365 that I mentioned in the last thread with today being day 161 of the challenge...

My Challenge 365 can be found here http://www.flickr.com/photos/mwhcvt/sets/72157625597570143/

I am a flickr user personally and can be found at www.flickr.com/photos/mwhcvt please add me as a contact and I will ensure that I add you back as I love to follow everyone else's work

I will get the ball rolling with a few of my favourites from the last couple of months so far...

This was my photo of the day last Sunday, it was taken at Stratford-upon-Avon Butterfly Farm where I was attending a photographic meet as part of another forum I am a member of, This is a Glasswinged Butterfly, I just loved the pose and the clear wings, I focused on the head of the butterfly.

156/365 by mwhcvt, on Flickr

Another one from the butterfly farm meet, when I saw the position of this one I decided it would be nice and kind of romantic to have it in the shape of a heart, A friend from the other forum has later pointed out that as well as the overall shape there are also lots of little white hearts on the wing's.

Pteronymia Notilla # 2 by mwhcvt, on Flickr

For those interested the whole set from this meet can be seen here http://www.flickr.com/photos/mwhcvt/sets/72157626770498571/

Having fun out with my brother-in-law, we both drive Land Rovers, I took my Range Rover through first and then got in position to take some photo's of his landie going through the ford, I'll admit I didn't take mine through at quite the same speed

153/365 by mwhcvt, on Flickr

The entire set from this land rover fun can be seen here http://www.flickr.com/photos/mwhcvt/sets/72157625895079456

and a final one from me before I had the thread over for everyone else to start posting their brilliant photo's

This was taken in my favourite location for photography, a little hamlet on the Warwickshire/Northamptonshire border call Wolfhampcote where this old and disused church lie's with all its long standing residents, here we see a little bit of silent prayer
A not so abandoned church by mwhcvt, on Flickr

Please try and avoid posting photos that you have previously posted, lets try and keep the thread fresh

your links don't work for me.

Just a few of my own, not had as much time as usual to prowl around with the camera lately.

Remains of a Bronze Age leadmill. I have been looking for it for around 5 years (it isn't on any maps which is probably its best protection) and finally discovered it just a few meters off a major footpath.

Hi, guys. Re-posting what was above since it doesn't seem to work. Hopefully the Mods will delete my original post, as I've asked them to.

Been a while since I posted here.

In the process of completely and utterly redesigning and relaunching my website to try and market myself better thanks to a few recent gigs I've booked this wedding season.

My websites can be found at:
http://aviation.tisdigital.com
http://weddings.tisdigital.com
http://blog.tisdigital.com

(Keep in mind, these are the old versions of the site, as the new ones will be finalized and uploaded sometime this weekend).

Having said all that, my more recent non-aviation stuff has dealt with playing with my new macro lens (Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro) and practicing my portrait work for my upcoming events.

It's great so see some really top quality images being posted already in the thread, this happens to be one of my favourite threads on a.net, I know I am biased having started the thread

I know there are a lot of lovers of all things motorized on this board so here's a couple from the weekend where I attended the Classic Commercial Vehicle Show.

Thanks man! It was my first real landscape photography outing. Lots of learning. Here's another Yosemite one (Lower Yosemite Falls):

The thing I was really hoping for in the sunset photos was a heavy doing a low departure from LAX's 25R or L. I got a photo with an A320 (I think)....This is the best I could get:

I took this panorama on Saturday night. It's 4 shots stitched together in CS5, each of the 4 shots are exposure fusions made from 3-shot brackets processed in Photomatix. So that's a total of 12 exposures.

Beautiful! I have to start trying stuff like that....

Sorry to post AGAIN, but I forgot that I went shooting at the beach yesterday, for some beach sunset light and some LAX takeoffs (though I really wasn't positioned properly for that). But I had the opportunity to take a Mark Garfinkel-type moonshot!

However, since I don't happen to be Mark Garfinkel, this is the best I could come up with (to be fair, I was actually taking shots of the moon, and only noticed the airplane when it wandered into the frame...not to mention my longest lens is 300mm, so this is heavily cropped):

Thank you! Amazing the lift a full moon can give to a pic, particularly when it's lurking behind a few clouds. Love your sunset pic, only on second viewing did I see the A320. The colours are beautiful, and the silhouette of the trees really adds to it.

I have to say there are some truly wonderful photo's in this thread so far, I have added everyone that is flickr user as a contact...There are a couple that though brilliant are dangerously close to being av photos as apposed to non-av photos

I am really looking forward to the great photos going to be posted over the coming months

Just one from me if a little cliche for the time of year but I was so happy to find some

Yes, there is an airplane in this shot but I wouldn't call it an aviation photo.

One from me taken a couple of days ago, there are some faults with it but it is part of my learning curve...it's made up of 29 images stitched together in photoshop.

If you want to view the full size it can be seen here, as I said it has a few minor faults in the stitching.

So I just came back yesterday from an absolutely awesome (but short) trip to Alaska! Hadn't been there before, and when I got an email from Jetblue announcing a sale from LGB to ANC, I couldn't resist.

800 photos later, I have my editing work cut out for me! Here are some photos from our day trip from Anchorage down to Seward and back:

I'll be adding more photos to that album as I have time, and I have a whole bunch of photos from Denali National Park, Anchorage, and other places.

Hope you all enjoy them, and sorry for all the photos!

Great pics as usual up there guys, and seeing that the thread is still going strong I might as well add a few more. I just love these long summer evenings and they are fantastic for pics:

Great stuff! Alphafloor, that is a pretty darn cool photo.

I tried my hand (well, Photoshop's hand) at some stitching today. The blended areas are a little more obvious than I'd like, but oh well, here it is:
