Show Us Your Desktop: July

Sat Jul 23, 2011 3:40 am

I haven't seen any recent threads lately, so I decided to start one:

http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6017/5966059704_0caf83f2e0_b.jpg

Flying over Downtown Manhattan Onboard US 1630 from CLT to LGA. This was my first upload on a.net, unfortunately, it was rejected but at least they placed a watermark on the other pic I took and now it looks official
It's a cultural thing.

Go "PrtScr" on your keyboard..and paste the image onto Paint, then save the image, upload it into an image sharing website like Imageshack or Photobucket, and then you can share it. I think you can also save images in your a-net profile..not sure how this works though.

My current desktop, photo taken by a friend, I think it was Atlantis, sometime in 2005 or so..not sure.

Dual Monitor!

Unfortunately, Due to Airliners.net still using a site for 800x600 monitors, It doesn't bump them next to each other, so here.

I'd post the rest, but they'd get redundant.Linux is rather satisfying, esp. once you start learning to do stuff from the command line. A lot of power in that text! I even used it to install VirtualBox on that machine. Thanks to VirtualBox I'm running: Fedora, Android, Scientific Linux and Windows Server 2003, between the two machines. I've been surfing looking for some older stuff like OS/2, but have had no luck yet.

It's nice to see someone who appreciates an uncluttered computer desktop.

That being said, I never really use anything that's posted on my desktop. It's usually just a temporary location for me to put things I plan to move shortly or delete.

+1.

A cluttered desktop drives me nuts. I can't believe people haven't yet caught on to gnome-do or even the good old Alt + F2 (for Windoze users the equivalent is Launchy)

Agreed 100%.

I didn´t post my desktop becuase, I am embarrased to have Windows.. LOL

I am a staunch linux fan, but I just bought this machine and I haven´t decided which to put as yet. I have used Ubuntu for a few years, and recently on my last machine I had Linux Mint becuase Ubuntu 11.04 was extremly unstable on it. So linux people help me choose from the new selection of Linux OSs. I have Ubuntu 11.04, Fedora 15 and Linux Mint 11 on DVDs ready to install.

So linux people help me choose

For the longest time I was a Fedora user. But now I just wanted something with batteries included. Played with Ubuntu but do not like their release strategy. I hate to see updates being pushed through which break all my configs. So looked at Mint. Mint is a downstream distro to Ubuntu and 100% Ubuntu under the hood. The only reason I chose it over Ubuntu is that updates are tested before release. Also Mint comes with batteries included. The Ubuntu restricted packages are all included. So out of the box, you have all your codecs installed. If you work with a lot of A/V. then that is one less hassle.

Well it seems to be going well so far. I first tried it on an older machine I had when it recently came out, and I thought it was indeed highly unstable. But as it seems to be going just fine so fat this time around.

Haha sorry   I have actually been looking for the same wallpaper for a very long time, and just wanted to help a fellow a.netter.

Yes indeed it is.
The thing I like about the website is that there is a description included with the wallpapers. Apparantly, my wallpaper shows Lake Jenny in Wyoming. I've actually been to Wyoming myself, but not sure whether I was at that lake as well.

It looks like a very beautiful place.
