So I think that your same-gender relationships seem to work because you intinctively understand each other better.

That's an interesting observation and, having been with my partner for over 5 years, quite valid based on my own experience. There is one other advantage to same sex couples...if the two of you are roughly the same height/weight, your wardrobe doubles!

Anyway, anyone keeping a tally at all? We are at what, 50ish or so?

Happy Together (1997), it's about two guys from Hong Kong who travel to Buenos Aires, hoping to fix their relationship. The film was awarded in the Cannes Film Festival back then. I absolutely loved it.

A wonderful film, even if a bit too sombre and vague at times. Watch it just for the awesome Leslie Cheung - a fascinating individual in his own right.

Many gay guys relate very poorly to many straight guys, as perspectives on life are totally different and priorities as well.

Some other gay guys have no problem interacting with straight men, either because of their own personalities or interests or because they live in a big city and have access to more "modern" straight guys with more varied interests that might match better with their own.

Its really a very situational type thing.

Personally I like the gay men that I know alright , my fiance has a few male nurse friends and co workers that go out with us some times. No problem ... they are cool and fun. I would say its just all about the person ... cant lump any group together like that. (except libs).

My Ex girlfriend worked at a Broadway Show / Event coordination company. I got along great with all of them , and it was like 90% gay men. Must have been the lesbian in me ...

Just a question.....How do gay guys relate to straight guys.....

In my personal experience, as long as the straight guys don't know I'm gay, we get along fine. Once the straight guys find out I'm gay, then they put themselves into one of four distinct groups:
1. About 50% get very uncomfortable around me and begin to labor under the delusion that I want them desperately and that every time I look in their general direction I'm secretly undressing them with eyes. The less attractive a straight guy is overall, the more likely he is to put himself in this group.
2. About 25% get their feelings hurt because I've been gay the whole time we've known each other and I've never made a pass at them... even though they're straight and would not be receptive to a pass from a gay guy. I call this the "I don't want to go to the party but I do want to be invited" syndrome.
3. About 15% are cool with me being gay and it doesn't make a difference to them.
4. About 10% are waaay too cool with me being gay and start introducing me as "My gay friend" and insist on trying to pair me off with their other gay friends, gay associates, and gay near-total strangers to in order prove just how cool/hip/modern/liberal they are. I usually wind up disappointing this group because except for being attracted to men I'm basically just a big ol' Redneck, and thus I'm not nearly gay enough to suit their agenda.
So in general, the way I relate to straight guys is by being friendly but keeping them at arm's length because I never know which group they'll fall into once they find out I'm gay.

Personally I find straight guys easier to have platonic friendships with. Most friendships I've had with other gay guys have ended because one of us would want more then just a friendship while the other doesn't necessarily want to. Having said that I find that after the initial "getting to know someone" period I can relate to almost anyone.

That's my experience as well, and I actually feel stupid for saying this. I really don't give a flying F--- what kind of sexual orientation someone has. I have straight friends that are into fashion and can be considered a bit faggy, I have gay friends who go to football matches and have a passion for BMW.
