Hotels In San Francisco Area

Mon Oct 10, 2011 2:13 pm

Hi all.

I am visiting San Francisco in March 2012, and will stay for two nights. If anyone knows any decent and reasonable 3- or 4-star hotels situated in safe neighborhoods I would greatly appreciate any info. So far most hotels I've found are located in the Tenderloin area, which I understand is not the best place to hang out. I don't mind living slightly outside of downtown as long as there are good connections to downtown.

Thanks in advance!

Courtyard Marriott in Fisherman's wharf is a nice place, also I've stayed at the Airport Marriott which has nice views of the runways.

Clubs Quarters near the Embarcadero is just fine for business travel. A little cramped for a family -- but great if you're alone.

I stayed here back in Sept 09 for 3 nights. Great hotel right in Union Square.

I have had excellent luck with some smaller properties; my most recent find, and the one I am most likely to revisit, is this:

Excellent location, very nice property, staff were beyond exceptional.

Also have stayed at the Monticello Inn, a block from Union Square, but it appears to have changed flags, so I can no longer vouch for it. It is now the Abri, and reviews remain favorable. http://www.larkspurhotels.com/collection/abri

Excellent suggestion!
When I lived in San Francisco, I had a friend that would always stay at that hotel. Their prices are really good for what it offers. It's a 4-star at 2-star prices.
I also like the fact that it's a high-rise and the views are great. The piano lounge on the top floor offers great views and an elegant dinning experience. Great for just cocktails & beer too.

If you book using your AAA card, you can get free breakfast each morning. Thats good enough for me.

I can vouch for the Abri - nice comfy rooms, right next to the tram lines and cable car, though the area did not seem particularly nice after dark...

Thank you all for the excellent suggestions! I will check them out. I must say that Hotel Rex looks quite cozy and inviting. Perhaps I will go for this.
