Went up to the cliff by Hawthorne Blvd. near Palos Verdes (greater LA) yesterday evening. Had my eye on that spot for awhile; glad I finally went up there:

So I was playing around with RAW editing yesterday. You can do some visually interesting things with no more than white balance, levels, and contrast:

Also finally got a remote shutter release the other day, so was playing around with that down by the beach (not the best quality photos in the world, but not too bad for my first attempt, I think

As an aside, that's about as close to a self-portrait as I think I'll ever get.

That's definitely on my list of things to do - I love sunset color shots. Just figured I would see what I could do after sunset, as well.

Was taking long exposure photos in Ye Olde Belfast Towne last night. Some teenage girls start prancing in front of my camera, mistaking it for something shooting video. "Are you from the BBC?" one asks. "No" I reply, "I'm an amateur." "Amateur?" she goes, "who are they? Do they do TV?"

I fear for humanity.

A few recent ones from me

This is one I'm very proud of I've been doing light trails since I first got into this photography game, and since then I've always said that for me the ultimate light trail would have the flashing lights of our emergency services on both sides of the road, well a few days ago I finally did it

Anyway, I feel like I finally got somewhere with my long-exposure photography tonight. Happened upon this beached boat, which provided some nice atmosphere. And yes these have an aviation component, but oh well:

12m1s exposure, F18, ISO400:

17m31s exposure, F14, ISO200:

In the 2nd one, you can see takeoffs from the 25s (on the left), takeoffs from the 24s (center), and airplanes turning onto downwind (right).

While I was on the beach, a cop on patrol stopped by and asked me what I was up to. I replied, "just taking some long exposures". He looked a little confused, and just said "OK" and drove off. Guess they don't get that answer much...

Here's another aviation/nonav combo photo. We had some serious cross winds at LAX tonight, which I didn't realize till I was already there. So ended up shooting out my passenger side window, with the camera sitting on a tripod on the passenger seat. Need to go back and try again on a less windy day, so I don't have to sit in the car, and can avoid the stupid chainlink fence. 11 minute exposure at F14 and ISO400:

took this about 5 mins before a wall of rain drenched me at Phillips Park in Prestwich, Manchester on 29th November. You couldn't see more than 50 metres during the downpour which lasted 2 hours.
