Facebooks New 'Timeline' Look, What Do You Think?

Hello,

I changed to the new Facebook "timeline" profile layout (will become standard for all very soon!) today. I really like the fact I can pull up individual months right back to when I joined FB in 2007. It's a great way to track things I have written in the past! You can also use it to add pictures of you from before Facebook existed - but in doing so can put them in the correct year.

Apart from those few a.netters I'm personal friends with and I know have also switched over today, is anyone else on here using the new Facebook?

I just changed it, and I like that it's only on the profile-screen only, as I go that screen only a few times. I hope they don't make any radical changes to News Feed screen, for abit anyway

Agreed. I enjoyed Facebook when it was a lot simpler and better laid-out. I relaize it's supposed to be more 'organized', but I think it just looks even less so. Besides, at the moment I can't think of any reason why whatever I posted in the past is important enough to retrieve and have on permanent display...I really didn't care when old stuff got pushed to the bottom and out of sight. Normally I'd be open to new stuff, but I think they messed up here.

I like the part where everything takes 5 minutes to load and the screen keeps scrolling on me as more stuff loads. It has made me a quicker and briefer reader.

Well FB better start having a more efficient response to problems. I have 2 accounts, both are blocked not my fault, they requested a copy of my id sent it over 12 times, still no response. 5 days+ and counting, this sucks badly.

We've heard it when they opened it up to high school kids. We heard it when they opened it up to everybody. We heard it when they put in the news feed. We heard it when they reorganized the news feed. Twice. Now we're gonna hear it again with a profile page that most people will probably never visit.

And yet it grows by leaps and bounds. I guess everyone needs something to complain about.

New Zealand was used as the launch country for the new FB last week and I changed over within the first few mins of it going live after doing the quick tour. I like how easy it is to find older posts/status updates from over the years and I also like the new photo feature as the top of the page

Not too crazy about it, but I can adjust to it. I like some features.

Certainly true, myself included.

However, I go on Facebook MAYBE once a month these days. A lot of that has to do with how complex it's gotten. I didn't like when they added apps, didn't like when they added the newsfeed, didn't like how the profile page looked when they switched it, etc, and my usage went down with each change. So now it's been relegated to very-rarely-visited status.

I don't mind it. I tried to resist but I got sucked into adding crap to my timeline. Mad to see old statuses & pics pop up. It does kind of remind me of Bebo though...

I've had it for a few months now.. I just changed my account to a so called 'developer account'. So I think I've used it since September or so. I definitely had to get used to it. I am considering de-activating and then re-activating the profile in order to delete my visible timeline to others.

I absolutely hate it. Timeline makes it really tough to navigate friend profiles. Also, I'd rather not have some older posts readily accessible.

Thanks for the reminder, I thought I would adjust it although it isn't available publicly just yet, trying to get used to it; probably a good idea to remove a few pictures and like pages.

The timeline feature is interesting, and it is fun to go back through different parts.

Simple solution. Download the browser extension Social Fixer, which allows you to customize the appearance of pages on Facebook and allows you to essentially undo the changes Facebook seems to make on a constant basis.

I started using it several months back and while there's been times in which Facebook has made changes that undid some of the tweaks the extension changed, I've been happy keeping as many of these changes at bay as best as I can.

Like my high school friends that went to different colleges? My friend that moved to Israel?? If I can see a friend in person I will any day over FB, but you can't expect me to fly on ATL-TLV every time I want to see how my friend is doing. Some people I know don't have texting, limited minutes, and hardly check their email so FB is the only way to keep up with them. The OP asked a question, I gave my opinion. Fair enough?

Changed over to the new layout on Thursday and must say I am very impressed with it. Makes everything much easier and I like being able to see things that were in the past. Very happy with it

I changed my the beginning of last week. I love it. My favourite part is the map feature and I like that you can set the locations of your pictures and then they show up on the map.

I was actually just trying to remember how Facebook used to look just the other day. When I first signed up in 2005 it was very, very different.

I think Facebook runs off some users when they shift things around like this.

IMO, this is the first change that facebook introduced in a while that I actually like. I like the idea of the cover photo on your profile, I find it more organized and interesting. Although, like most people, I prefer the OLD (2009) version of facebook. Some people would say it sucks for now but we'll eventually get used to it.

I'm curious how much of a timeline FB will have for me considering I delete posts off my wall after about 24 hours or so. No posts, no history for them really. Only tagged photos are kept on my wall now since taking them off my wall for some reason takes the tag out...drives me nuts!

That's what I figured. I'm wondering if I can build in some history when it pops up. I'll have to play with it once I get changed over LOL.

This whole bunch of changes are way too complicated and not usable - large picture thumbnails being spread everywhere, a wall that is divided into two columns and many other features that I really don't like. Having a great experience on #Twitter, I am not paying too much attention to Facebook lately.

Well, it turns out that when I contacted FB last year for a little help deleting the wall posts, all they did was just hide them. I am in the process of converting over to the timeline now and all the original posts are popping back up now. So, I am going through deleting the wall posts that I no longer want.

However, I am adding a bunch of stuff too like Life Events, travel, tagging pictures with locations which updates my map, etc. I'm actually liking this timeline thing and am really putting effort into making a good timeline for my friends to see!!!

The bad thing is that in this version of IE that I am working in on my work computer, the timeline is very glitchy. It works much better on my home computer using Mozilla.

This is exactly my situation. If my whole network of aviation friends weren't on Facebook, I'd delete it faster than you could say the darned word. I've made my negative feelings toward the site known in the past, but with this, I am seriously shifting towards a deep resentment. I know I shouldn't give it that much energy, but having my past dredged up for all to see against my will is a step a little too far for me.
