Favorite Holiday Craft Beer Or Ale

Sat Dec 24, 2011 4:25 pm

Merry Christmas and happy New Year to all!

As the holiday season is upon us I was wondering what your favorite craftbeer or ale is. Had I started this topic earlier this week it would have been easy for me Sam Adams Winter Lager. However I have tried a few new seasonal brews which are excellent. They are Smuttynose Winter Ale, Berkshire Brewing Company Berkshire's Cabin Fever Ale and finally Woodstck Inn Brewery Wassail Ale. All enjoyable and all I would enjoy drinking again.

You thoughts!

One of the best brews I enjoy this time of year is the Blackberry Porter from The Cannery Brewing Company down in Penticton, BC ...

The Barley Station Brew Pub up in Salmon Arm, BC usually has a good seasonal brew, but I don't know what they have this year on tap. They did have a pumpkin spice beer in the fall that was amazing.

The trouble I have with the winter beers and porters is that they are too heavy for my taste, I prefer the lighter summer style beers, so I shall be celebrating this year with a couple of bottles of Hall & Woodhouse Golden Glory with its lovely peachy aroma.

My favorite beer, at any time of year is:

Samuel Smith's Winter Welcome

It's a seasonal brew, so finding it after January is nearly impossible in the US.

My wonderful wife was able to locate a case for me, and it was sitting under the tree for me on Christmas morning.

The best I've ever had is Lapin Kulta, a lager from Lappish Finland when I was up there the other christmas. It's far better than the lagers we get here in the UK but at 7 euros a pint, it's not cheap! Other ones to note is Blue Marlin and Pheonix from Mauritius, Efes from Turkey, and Tusker, named after an Elephant who killed the owner of a brewery in Kenya!

St-Ambroise Stouts are always a welcome winter warmer (and their Extra Strong Imperial Russian Stout is especially nice).

I am also quite the fan of Fuller's Vintage, holiday, and Golden Pride barley wine - even though they are far from Craft Ales. All are particularly delicious as the winter weather encroaches upon us.

Quoting georgiabill (Thread starter):
am Adams Winter Lager.

My wife bought me a 6 pack of this. I am a huge Sam Adams fan but I didn't notice much difference in taste, slightly nuttier but not what I was expecting. Do you find this to be true as well?
