BRU Meet September 1st 2012

Hey guys,

I've seen tons of meets here and everytime I want to go I can't make it due to the date, so then I thought. Lets do a BRU meet! I would be organizing this, and maybe Niek(photoshooter)? could help me if he is willing to of course, we all have busy lives I know. I have a driving license

Here's my proposal: We meet on a date everybody that is willing to participate is available. If you have to take a flight and you would be willing to fly SN (I'm hearing Niek cursing now) then I could arrange a discount on the tickets with the VP of communication at SN.

I don't know if some people would stay 2 days depending on their availability.

If you have any remarks or propositions please feel free to comment on this topic.

If the timing is right maybe I could pop over from the US. I am coming to the BER meet in June. Isn't SN starting service to JFK sometime soon? The original SN was my first flight ever...December 1978 ATL-BRU on an SN B707! I was hooked ever since and I was only nine at the time. Talk to the VP for me and I can do a TR to compare the two...it is only a 34 year difference!

I like the idea. Something we could do is to join a guided tour of the airport, tours are available in english and quite affordable as long as the group is large enough (up to 24 people). Or maybe if you have a good contact at SN we could organize a special tour of the cargo / maintenance area with some opportunities for spotting along the runways ? Photography is said to be forbidden on the public tours, but we never know

Glad to see so many responses already! Should PM niek about this though as I think he doesn't even have the clue I'm organising a meet.

As said in the initial post I have a driving license so if somebody would need a short transport from the airport to the hotel or of course if we go out spotting around the airport that sure comes in handy!

That's 1 person needing a ticket. I think hannah you can fly for free with BA to BRU right? So you wouldn't need a ticket.

I have some good contacts with Jan van der Cruysse (for the ones that aren't belgian: that's the VP of Communication at Brussels Airport) and I can see what I can arrange with him for that visit. Especially because he has invited me already to numerous events like last years solar impulse I'm sure I might be able to arrange a bus for us to spot alongside the runways this being airside and not outside the airport. Thanks for the idea!

Any help will always be appreciated in means of transport etc

As for the rest on here: I'm currently in touch with BRU Airport, who would be intrested in this public airport tour (if enough people we might get those special spotting places next to the runway)

Sounds like a good idea, I prefer a date somewhere in July though

SN is alright, just be sure you're in Economy + or in Business and they'll treat you like a real passenger

glad to see so many intrest in BRU, wouldn't think people be that interested! As for the dates, niek proposed July as a month, I would like to see some people propose other months so we have some variety and we can see what month goes best for everyone. Then we can set a day.

I'd be interested and I'd fly SN from MAN but July is taken up for me.. Its my wedding and its the annual MAN meet but at a date still to be decided..

Any other month you would like Ndebelebev? I'd propose spring and summer months as sunlight then is optimal. Just propose some months guys so I can make a list. Then I'll make a free poll somewhere and we'll see when the most are available.

IMHO we should stay away from july/august as flights and accommodations will be more expensive. May/june would be fine, or even september to allow more time for people to organise their schedules... Also keep in mind that the first weekend of june will see the opening of BER with many A.netters going there

Works perfectly over here, I'd like meeting in the beginning of September though, College starts somewhere end September...!

Good point airtrainer, I was also thinking more around May/June or September (as I'm going to college I only start the 2nd or 3rd week of September)

I'd be interested in this, including the airport tour

I have no flying (or anything really) scheduled for the end of April and into May/June so it would fill an empty slot nicely!

I would probably fly over from LPL on U2 as the flights to BRU are always dirt cheap.

Hi, sounds interesting. Might attend as well, depending of course on the exact date. Have been to Brussels several times, but actually never made it to the airport there, so that would be something new for me. I think the later the better, since fares in the summertime usually are quite high. So I guess September would be ok.

Just a heads up, I'm currently in talks with both SN (for the tickets) and BRU (for the public tour, with the possible spotting near the runway)

At this very moment there is a good chance we will be allowed to spot near the runways, but pay attention nothing is confirmed yet! Jan has been very positive in his answers to me but ultimately he will have to see what is doable for the number of people that will be attending.

Just another quick question that I forgot to post in the topic, I suppose most people would prefer a weekend in september over a weekday?

Well, speaking for myself a weekday would be ok as I have a rather unusual schedule at work, but a saturday is ok as well, just need to find a colleague willing to work my shift...

The survey is part English - part Dutch. This is unacceptable !
Belgian law makes it mandatory to either make it exclusively in English or combine Dutch-French-German with accessorily English in italic and Brussels' dialect in bold.

The same federal rules are valid for drivers, assistants, tour guides, brochures, road signs (inside the federal infrastructure), etc...any deviation will be duly reported.

At this very moment the tour is on a high acceptance tour.

As for the rest: SN will be discussing internally about the fare reduction/upgrade on those tickets. We might also get to visit one of SN's maintenance hangars for a nice view of planes in maintenance (they always look different then!

)

Allright another heads-up now, the poll has been closed at midnight and here are the results:

Month voted to host the event: September 2012

There was no preference in terms of weeks in the month:

22 people were intrested in the BRU Tour, 2 weren't:

Now the info I have so far: SN is discussing internally about the reduction or upgrade you can get on their flights. BRU is also looking into the tour which also has a good chance in being a complete OK!

As for now I will ask the mods to edit the title of the thread to BRU Meet Sept. 2012. I'm also posting a new survey link here which will include the choices of Week or weekend and you should be able to click different periods that are alright for you! You can choose more than one date but make sure that if you select weekend you only click days that are Saturday's or sunday's.

Well it is quite short I know but as everyone (10 voters atm) voted for weekends and the first weekend of sept is winning I decided to shorten the period drastically.

most people that voted the first weekend also voted the 2nd so I do not see big issues

.

On top of that BRU and SN want to know the final date asap to arrange everything with me, I will probably have several meetings to arrange everything. Anyways ill add 12 more hours. Thus survey closed on Monday at 12:00AM! (GMT+2, western european time)

Very nice as I need to look at my calendar but I think that is a holiday weekend here in the US (Labour Day) so that is a bonus...let me know what SN says about the fares. I would love to try their service from NYC as its been 34 years since I last flew SN!
