744s Collide At Schipol

Sun Apr 01, 2012 7:40 am

A KE 744 suffered a technical problem at AMS and collided with a KL 744. KE's nose impacted KL on its aft port side, just forward of the tailplane after the KL tailplane impacted just above KE's cockpit windows. You can see that the collision is so forceful that the KL aircraft is pushed for some distance across the tarmac before both aircraft come to rest. Remarkably, (and fortunately) there are no reported injuries at this time.

A video of the entire incident was caught by a bystander. The video also documents the emergency response, which is pretty remarkable.

I don't know what's so funny.    Everything I posted was absolutely factual.

Did you notice, it seems that the KLM 747 leaked out fuel before the incident.

Imagine, that fuel would have been lit.

Those 74's are made of some tough stuff! And the airport clean up and recovery operation is certainly the fastest and most efficient I have ever seen!

You're a little stinker, DocLightning! Especially since it's Lirpa Sloof Yad.

I've been to Madurodam and I love the Schiphol display.

The mods insisted on moving this to Non-Av, which pretty much obviates its status as an April Fools joke.

I'm surprised, BTW, that none of you nerds pointed out that KE does not send 744's to AMS at the current time.

Actually they do; 747 freighters.    Here is a photo from a few days back: http://bit.ly/HHKh1i.

The disaster was obviously caused by the Korean airplane lacking all it's undercarriage gear, being unable to maneuver properly.
