I went to the San Diego Safari Park the other day and they have a spectacular Butterfly Jungle exhibit right now. Such neat little creatures!

Had some trouble deciding where to split this 360º pano, usually I'd center it around where I split it this time, but the sky just looked so much cooler this way.

The power plant in Redondo Beach yesterday. Unfortunately haven't found a really good vantage point.

The opposite (ocean) side of the power plant has one of those giant whale murals by Wyland (you can see part of it on the left).

I woke early this morning, around the time the Titanic sunk 100 years ago, so it was on my mind all morning, no doubt helped by having seen the 3D version of the film the previous night. I wanted to be by the sea, so over the next few hours took myself from one end of the county to the other. Appropriately, there were stories about the sinking on the radio while taking the first shots below, which made the day all the more memorable.

I wonder where this little fella came from . . .

Well on Tuesday I took delivery of my new camera, I treated myself to the Canon 5D3 plus the Canon 24-70/2.8L and here are the first three photo's that I've taken with it

Frankly, any train shot is a good one... but nice perspective. Jeez that's a long train!

A shot I've wanted to get for 15 years. Finally the right lens, the right camera, the right moment. Pulpit Peak from Bow Valley Parkway, Banff National Park.

Sinclair Canyon, Kootenay National Park, Radium, BC. Iron oxide stained limestone cliffs. Very impressive.

One Aires to another.... I can really appreciate his sense of self-beauty. Actually, there were about 15 of them and they were great to watch for 1/2 an hour.

Kootenay Valley, near Verdent Creek, Kootenay National Park. Honestly, there was something 'off' about this coyote. It was obviously sniffing for food and gave up on us in our car when the next one pulled up behind us a few minutes later. But I got a few dozen shots of him right beside the car. This is the best of of about 10 good shots.

A small homestead just a few years from total dilapidation. It's sitting along side a huge beaver pond.

Rogers Pass, Glacier National Park, BC. Kinda Ansel Adams-y.

What a little water will do to the colour of the grass, eh? This shot was taken just a 1/2 mile from the Quilchena Hotel overlooking Nicola Lake near Merritt, BC.

If I may give you an advice, you should have lowered the shutter speed to anything between 0/80 and 0/160 in order to have a speed effect. Your picture would have had more visual impact. Here the car looks stopped on the track (was it?).

Lowering the shutter speed gives you that nice effect of movement:

I know what you're talking about and I've done it before, but in this instance I only had a really, really small window of opportunity where the cars were completely unobstructed- it was a very crowded viewing area and there were also a lot of palm trees, light poles, and fences between me and the cars. So I felt like I didn't have enough time and room to properly aim a panning shot. You seem to have made out very nicely there though- that's Le Mans, right? What year?

Ok, not the best conditions indeed.

Yep, last year. It has become almost impossible for amateurs like us to take pictures at Le Mans on a ground level. That spot above is one of the very few where you are not bothered by a fence.

I think you have me confused...anyway, I'll see what I can find from recent pictures. Being on the west side of the island, the only good things I can take a picture at are the sky and the beach, though I'll see if I can find "the new angle"...
