Music Suggestions Needed.

Mon Jun 18, 2012 5:16 am

I'm looking to find some new music in the style of Massive Attack, UNKLE, Moby, Oceanlab or similar.
Something in the genre of chillout, trip hop or melodic instrumental music.

Just to give an idea of what I'm after...

UNKLE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obKnIvxJGX8

Fc Kahuna
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WjeWsiujmU

Oceanlab
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myC77TiAlkA

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Never heard of the music genre 'chillout'.

You might like some trippy electronic music from Japan such as these;

Cycle - Gabriela Robin

How You Feel - Fat Jon

Forever Broke - Cowboy Bepop

At work, no youtube access, so couldn't check out the tracks you posted. However, going by the description, I'd recommend Xploding Plastix. I'm not certain they're the same genre, but if you're inclined to try, do listen to 'Sports, not heavy crime' by them.

Long story. Saving chilean miners, killing a certain terrorist leader in Pakistan, and fighting off an invasion covered up by the government... I won't bore you with the details.

Anyway, decent suggestions, though none of it really hit the sweet spot for me. Thanks though.

No kidding!

When I saw the thread title and who posted it, of course the first band that came to mind was Tool.

Wasn't expecting something so different!

Yeah but I already know about them...

While Metal and rock is still my favourite style of music, I very much enjoy the type of music in the links in the thread starter.

Hmm, less 70s jazz/funk, more modern electronic me thinks.

I'm talking about the squirrel with the large balls that would show up in your post many years ago.
Interesting to hear that you were part of the tasked that offed a certain terrorist leader in Pakistan. The US President is running around the country taking credit for it.

Some of it remids me of Ayreon, which isn't a bad thing...

Hi!

It might not be your thing but I used to really like Chicane's first album Far From the Maddening Crowds.

This is the part you've probably heard but the whole album is much better:

It's not really trip hop just chilled dance but it has very good arrangements.

Many thanks,

Pierre

We seem to have a similar taste in music, especially in metal. Let's see...

I very much like that song. Years ago I recorded it onto a music tape from a CD I borrowed. (Feeling a bit old now, bringing up music cassettes and all...)

I'll give the rest of their music a go. If it is anything like Offshore then it won't disappoint.

So similar in fact, that I already have the Isis album.

No arguements with the celtic song, but I was thinking of something a bit less likely to put me to sleep.

Glad you like it sir. It is a good album and I have gone jogging to it many times!

Here's another track which is similar which I found on Youtube. I have no idea who it's by or if there's an album but it is very Chicane! It's actually in a planespotting video at Zurich airport. The video is cool too!

So simillar in fact, that I believe it must be a remix of some sort.

Still a nice track.

Nice, only had a chance to listen to the first one so far, but already picked out a song or two which I liked. Thanks.

That melody has movie or sports montage written all over it.
Not bad.

Maybe some Esthero?

I can see where you're coming from, but not an instant hit with me...

Absolutely true - it is a soundtrack, albeit an unusual one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Requiem_for_a_Tower

I've got another suggestion for you, quite different from Corner Stone Cues: "Do What You Want" by Aya.

You might enjoy listening to Leftover Salmon. Their new cd Aquatic Hitchhiker is very good. I like Here comes the night.
