|2013 Chevrolet Trax (European Model)|
Chevrolet will introduce its newest European and Asian market subcompact CUV at the Paris Auto Show shortly. Called the "Trax" (see official GM photo above), this new CUV, based on the existing Chevy Sonic's platform, is platform-sisters with both the current Opel Mokka and the new Buick Encore. The Trax is expected to be powered by the same 1.4 liter turbocharged 4 cylinder motor or a 1.8 liter 4 cylinder petrol motor mated to either a six-speed automatic or 5 speed manual transmission - as is used in the Buick Encore and the Chevy Sonic LTZ models. It is expected to compete against the Kia Soul, Mini Countryman and the upcoming Fiat 500"L" models.
Sales of the Trax is NOT guaranteed in the USA, as Chevy does not want to steal sales away from its profitable, hot selling (and larger) Equinox CUV. But increased competition in the sub-compact urban CUV market has U.S. Chevrolet dealers apparently asking for Chevy to sell the Trax here, as it was designed to pass U.S. crash standards and uses already U.S. emissions compliant engines. No pricing has been announced, but the loaded Buick Encore sells for approximately $27000 USD.
