How Is Internet Explorer 10?

Fri Mar 08, 2013 11:27 pm

I see that Internet Explorer 10 is available for Windows 7 now, does anyone have it? How is it? Is it better that IE9? Is it worth upgrading from IE9 ro IE10?

I guess I'll be the first to say "wow, someone's still using that?"

One of the best things about the explosion of mobile browsers is that most of the IE-specific stuff has been removed from web pages.

Of course there's lots of stuff out there that now presumes your browser is based on webkit, but that ain't the end of the world.

It's been months since I've used IE, and I don't intend on upgrading.

10 is extremely fast and I've been using it as my primary browser for months since I upgraded to Windows 8. It's is a completely different browser from earlier versions. Even the jump from 9 is noticeable.

Excuse me? How did you arrive at that conclusion?

I've used Internet Explorer extensively. Not by choice, of course.

I've used IE and all other major browsers. IE is by far the worse.

But have you used IE10?

I've been using it as my primary browser and I enjoy it.

Using it at the moment, and after removing some of the annoying stuff (such as spell check & 3rd party suggested URLs), I kind of like it. The only thing currently annoying me is that it seems a tad on the unstable side. If you're quick to close a tab while loading some heavy site, I've seen it crash and reloading all the tabs more than once.

And the ultimate joy: It annoys the holier-than-thou people who would sooner run a stake through their own heart, than say something positive about IE

I use Opera as my primary browser but have been tempted to switch to IE10. I've never had any issues with it the few times I've used it thus far, and I like the interface. It's easy to write off anything IE as bad given their track record, but IE10 really isn't bad. I was definitely in the anti-IE camp for many years, but I think the trend is reversing now.

I also like their marketing of it, pretty much admitting that IE has been terrible.

I have. Not as bad as previous versions (this one is useable) but considering the great browsers that exist it's beyond me why anyone uses it.

While I like IE 10.0 under Windows 7, I still prefer Chrome 25.0.1364.160 (the current stable release version) because of Chrome's vastly superior HTML 5.0 compatibility.

Anybody who knocks IE 10 has never tried it -- clean interface, just as fast as Chrome to the naked eye, no website compatibility hangups & more features that are pertinent to many. Prior to switching to IE 10, I hadn't used IE since the introduction of FireFox in 2004. I later switched to Chrome, but FireFox retained popularity among my employer (sans a few intranet activities based off of IE 6) and school. I now use IE 10 exclusively except for my ancient notebook, which has XP and therefore is restricted to IE 8.

I am running Windows 7 64 bit and IE10 works extremely well and this is coming from a previous Firefox user. I was skeptical about upgrading from IE9 to IE10 and figured I was wasting my time, but it seems to run extremely smooth and loads quickly. I was having problems with Firefox freezing on long a.net threads but no such issues so far with IE10.

I have a new all in one windows 8 computer, I bought the same one for my Grandson. I like Explorer, he prefers Chrome. He says it is faster. I have to say, he knows better when it comes to computers. I bow to his expertize, He is 12, I am just a bit older.

What features would these be?

The other things (clean i/f, fast, compatible, etc) are certainly available elsewhere.

For ha-ha's I downloaded ie10 and indeed, it insisted I reboot if I wanted to use it.

Takes you back to the 90s, doesn't it?

Can't think of any software I've loaded in years that has insisted on a reboot, other than OS upgrades/fixes.

I was comparing IE10 to Chome, which I was previously using.

I'm not partial to Microsoft, I had not used IE in nearly 10 years and I'm aware there's plenty of MS haters around ... but I'm pleased with IE10.

It'd be nice if you stop throwing around pejoratives like "haters" and instead list some of the "features that are pertinent to many" users of other browsers such as Chrome.

I just want to point out that there is, often,j a valid reason behind being a 'hater'.

The short answer to that is 'yes'. I just upgraded my browser to IE10 from IE9 and the difference is noticeable - it is noticeably quicker.

That said, I've used nothing but IE (it was either IE3 or IE4 when I started going online and have upgraded as every new IE version became available) so I can't really compare it with any other browser available.
