I dont think and dont hope that they´ll try to revive the name again. Expensive mistake. There will be a ultraluxury Mercedes based on the S-Class with hopefully a more distinct body, positioned somewhere between the upper end of the traditional S-Class and the late Maybach. I expect it to be a rival to the Bentley Flying Spur and
RR Ghost, in Stuttgart fashion with tons of gimmicks.
A classic fourdoor, and a stretch are announced (danger here, as Mercedes never managed to build an attractive stretch since the 600 of the 60s!). Possible is also a fourdoor convertible.
The "new" Maybach was a mistake from the start. First the name was dead for more than 50 years, hardly anyone rermembered them. Then the original Maybachs, while being Germanys ultraluxury brand, the German Rolls-Royce, with few exceptions never carried bodies as elegant as many of the English original. Maybachs were seen as a statement of extreme wealth, not taste. They also sold in microscopic numbers. In that sense the Mercedes-Maybach was a worthy successor.
