Controversial Mercedes Fake-Commercial

Fri Aug 23, 2013 8:49 pm

What do you think about this work of some students? Mercedes Benz insisted on a disclaimer that they have nothing to do with it.

As far as technics and dramaturgy go the film is certainly well done (as far as I can tell). The students cerainly deserve a diploma cum laude.

But is the clip itself morally okay? Anyway, it is worth watching:

LOL!!!

Of course it requires a little knowledge of history to appreciate the humor.

Imagine that - Humor from Germans...

It was very well done but the Hitler thing just made it cheezy. Morally? Who cares- its a clip on the internet. If they were undergraduates I'm pretty impressed with their technical ability.

The thing that annoys me here is that the car kills a kid. Be it Hitler, he's still an innocent kid not yet filled with all those horrible thoughts and ideas (I would believe!).

Maybe hitting an older Hitler, when he began developping all his hate, would have been more "acceptable"? It's hard to guess the line.

As regards to the clip's production, they did a great job. You would think it's done by professionals and not students. Credits to them on this aspect.

It took me a second view to realize the kid's position at the very end

I thought it was cleverly done, and a little knowledge of history helped one to realize how clever it was. Maybe it was wishful thinking also.

The alleged lack of a sense of humour of our German cousins has nothing to do with WWII.

Brilliant! And very well made too. Has Daimler-Benz commented at all?

Yes. They want everyone to know that they have nothing to do with it at all.

Still, I bet they're privately smirking. It'll probably be viewed by more people than any of their ads.

Ironically, the film is nominated for the "First Clip" young professional award - which sponsor happens to be Mercedes-Benz.

Well, some say the clip was a continuation of the Nazi race definition by other means: Somehow, the collision/anti-collision system would have to detect or sense that the young Adolf will become a dictator, and be it by the shape of his skull or nose.

Others say the Adolf in the film was an innocent kid and the producers should have choosen a Hitler in his adolescence, when he was drafting his ideology but before he caused death and destruction. But of course a scene like that wouldn't really fit into the script with the two girls playing in the street and the the baffled common folks.
And the film would kick up a lot less dust.

Those killjoys who invent these far fetched implicationsa should relax a little bit, get a life and enjoy a healthy dose of dark humor.
