Well did anyone watch the MTV award the other night. Mylie has certainly dumped her good girl Hannah Montanna image with her dance on stage. I now feel a better person to know what "twerking" is.

When I was younger that's what we would've called a six pack, three shots, and last chick left in the room before you'd touch it with someone else's equipment. Skanky ho's have their uses but making millions of people throw up their dinner shouldn't be one of them.

Why are people giving this basket case girl the attention she so clearly craves? At least when Lady Gaga is weird it has some sort of purpose--even if it is still weird and way over most peoples' heads. Miss Miley's antics, however, are just a cry for attention, affection, and perhaps help.

IMHO, this is further proof that a good parent would not put their child in a position to be exploited the way Miley's (and many other child stars' parents) have. They just are not equipped emotionally or cognitively to handle it or the transition to the point in their life when they are no longer a cute kid and must function as an adult in the real world. Some, like Britney make the transition, but wear the scars for the world to see. Who would wish that on their kid??

Here's the thing, the VMAs have long been the spot for wild and crazy antics that cause controversies. Madonna's performance of "Like A Virgin" at the very first VMAs back in 1984, Andrew Dice Clay's act at the 1989 VMAs, Howard Stern as "Fartman" at the 1992 VMAs, and Madonna's kissing of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera at the 2004 VMAs are notable examples.

MTV as a network thrives on controversy, always has, always will.

Usually I would agree, actually, probably every single time except this one time, because it was so bizarre. It's not just some dumb celebrity gossip, it was like catching a 80 car pile up, a plane crash, a train crash, and a cruise liner going aground all in one shot

Actually, it was "Hannah Montana" a popular show for young girls - and from the few times I'd seen it with my daughter wasn't bad for its intended audience. Anna Montana sounds like the perfect porn star name for her now LOL.

Too bad she's sort of gone off the deep end to no discernable purpose. Seemed to have a reasonable amount of talent that would only be enhanced by a little subtlety.

I don't think I've ever watched anything with her in it or heard one of her songs, but I "follow" her with my weekly hour of dailymail gossip, and since her adulthood she has started covering her body with tattoos, it's really horrible.

I read the media coverage, then watched it quite a bit later.

I have to say I don't see what all the fuss is about. It was certainly very crap, there's no doubt about that. But I wasn't nearly as shocked as the tabloids seem to be. So she was nearly naked and sexually suggestive- is this particularly noteworthy?

Perhaps, though the song she performed was already a Number 2 billboard hit and had sold over two million copies. She didn't need to make a donkey out of herself to help this song along. The previous success of the song and her already respectable chart record outside of the Hannah Montana realm precludes (to me at least) any obvious need to bring any more attention to it.

Failing to hit No.1 doesn't impede your career. A career without a slew of No.1s doesn't meant much in the US, though it does apparently mean something in the UK (for instance the Spice Girls only failed to top the chart with 2 of their 11 singles, one of them 8 years after their prime). Tina Turner only had one No.1 hit her entire career. She was no worse for the wear. Same for Fleetwood Mac. They had only one and are still selling out arenas. Stevie Nicks never had a solo single hit No.1; she still sells out arenas. Same for Bette Midler. Bon Jovi hasn't had a top 20 hit in almost twenty years, but it doesn't stop them from being successful.

I think the problem with the stage act of Cyrus at the VMA's is that it was a very 'adult' act, to an audience with a plurality of impressionable minors, teens, and pre-teens. She is a lousy singer and has to use an 'act' to get attention and make more money. I wish the VMAs would mature and get away from such performances, feature real talent (like for example Alicia Keys), not give most of it's awards as this year to white performers (doing R&B based music) who are more famous for sensational acts.

Hardly anything new. Singers have done raunchy things for decades. Heck, when I saw the Stones in 1975, Mick Jagger rode a giant blow-up dildo during "Star Star" - and that's the polite name for the song

The VMAs are just a contest to see who can be on the front page of TMZ the next day. The fact that MTV is still relevant is sad. Though someone made a funny Vine with her father https://vine.co/v/hiB0JPTOd3b . That was the only thing I actually watched from the VMAs. I have twitter to tell me about all the stupid stuff.
