Lunar Eclipse Tonight

Tue Apr 15, 2014 5:14 am

Who's watching it? NASA TV is broadcasting it as well.

Gives you a pretty good timeline to watch it.

KASW channel 61 in Phoenix just re ran the 500th Simpson episode tonight. I was telling friends earlier it would be hilarious if they ran that one because the news showed Homer panicking during a lunar eclipse. "I was afraid the dragon wouldn't cough the moon back up." "You idjit! The dragon always coughs the moon back up!"

Going to be watching it here in Ontario. It's clear skies tonight so I'll be taking some pictures. I'll try and remember to post them if I don't fall asleep.

We will get a real good view of it here in OZ.

Hopefully I wont have to resort to the TV, unless its cloudy etc

Lol good stuff!

I went out to my deck and the moon was pretty bright right now in the San Diego SE sky. I used my Sky Guide app http://beautifulpixels.com/iphone/sky-guide/ and was able to see Mars to the NE of the moon and Saturn way to the SE of the moon.

I wish I could see it. Overcast skies in PHL. Does anyone know when the next one is?

I think Mars is closest to the Earth tonight too. Opposition was last week so guess it is only closer tonight because we're still moving away from the Sun until July so Mars must be moving closer. Watching the moon now with my binocs btw.

'Tis indeed.

I'm about to head out to snap some shots of the eclipse and Mars. Hopefully it hasn't gotten too cloudy.

The moon is crescented over 1/3rd now. Sky is pretty clear though. Some really light clouds but theoon shines right through it. Unfortunately I don't have the right type of lense for my camera, and the iphone don't work very good on these shots.

Just saw the blood moon about 11 mins ago. It´s 02:23. Mars looked great too. Wonderful things nature throws at us.

Managed to get a few decent shots, Also had the Northern Lights active to the north of me. Couldn't have had a better night, not a cloud in the sky (mind you it was -17C.) I probably wont get to see a lunar eclipse quite like that again in my life time, so I feel pretty lucky to have conditions like these.

Very nice work, Vik! It was overcast and rainy all night here in CLT - I did get up around 3am, just in case the clouds parted and I could get some shots...instead, a thunderstorm rolled through right about that time.

Did not stay up for this one. There are a few more in the next year, one lands on a Saturday so will stay up for at least one as long as the weather is good that day.

Woke up at 1:30am, waited until it glowed red, went back to sleep. Today is a work day unfortunately.

Believe it or not I thought about that beforehand, but I started looking for a shot of DS2 taken from Endor so it actually looked like it was taken from the ground, then went to DS1 and realized the shots of DS2 were just way better looking IMO and went with it. But kudos for knowing the difference!
