A pet-peeve of mine is to get a used car up on a lift and the seller has had the underside sprayed and then tries to lie about it and say "it was Ziebarted at the factory"

I had '97 Crown Vic. Ziebarted within the first month after I drove it off the lot (Nov. 1996). If I ever sell it, I have the paperwork to back the above up.

First 500 Ford Mustangs for European customers flew off the shelves in 30 seconds!

Key Excerpts from your posted article (bold emphasis added):

Ford recently opened up the order books for its 2015 Mustang in Europe, and within 30 seconds the first 500 cars destined for the old continent were snapped up.

Ordered, not delivered; but still good news for Ford.

Ford limited the first 500 examples to either Race Red for buyers interested in the coupe or Magnetic Silver for the convertible. The buyers also have to choose from either the Mustang EcoBoost model or Mustang GT. The base Mustang equipped with a V-6 won’t be offered in Europe.

I can remember going in there with a friend and driving an "SM" which was new back then (early 1970's) and I remember being very impressed with that cars road manners and comfort level

My dad was a Citroen mechanic back in the 70's. His boss had one of these and he maintained it and of course had to road test it. It was partially designed by Maserati and had a Maserati engine, the M in SM was apparently for Maserati. He still claims that was one of the best cars he has ever driven.

He was a Citroen nut, before my time he has several DS's, a GS, a Bijou and I vaguely remember his CX Safari, that was a beast at over 20' long! He replaced it with a Renault 11, which didnt last long as it was a POS and went back to Citroen with a BX GTI. With only a 1.9 and looking like a tank, that thing moved. He then had 3x XM's, which were very nice cars and more than gave any 5 series of E Class a run for its money. The 1990 3.0 V6 was a pretty potent machine for its time, speed restricted to 145mph. His were fine for the most part, but they had - quel surprise!! - reliability issues and horrific depreciation which hindered sales in Britain. He also had a 2CV van. He had to get rid of that as he could not find a fix for the exhaust manifold being inexplicably linked to the heater, resulting in near asphyxiation on any cool day or demisting.

Yeah, that's a good thing to have. It is also obvious on an older model that the Ziebarting has some "age" on it.
My gripe is when a seller feels he has to "pretty up" the underside. Like with a bad rear main and the resulting oil-slick from front to rear! Or crunchy brake and fuel lines. Even worse, crunchy areas of the frame!

As a buyer, I want to see the good AND the bad.

1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme - 2dr

Tid bit: all Olds' mid-size wagons from 1978 onward were all called Cutlass Cruisers (no Supreme in the name at all); unlike the sedans there was no production overlap between the older RWD-wagons and the FWD-based (Ciera) Cutlass Crusiers, hence why the Cutlass Cruiser name wasn't altered during that transition.

Hey, at least I wouldn't want a dark convertible. Waaaaay too hot in the blazing sun. I want to be able to enjoy popping the top! My old friend's '66 Cutlass Convertible was white with black top and black vinyl. Thank Heavens it also had a/c because the interior got so hot on a sultry summer day in Atlanta you couldn't stand to be in it otherwise! Third-degree burns on the backs of your legs if you were wearing shorts and sat down after it was parked in the sun for a while. No thanks!

How 'bout white leather? And don't forget baby blue shorts and white patent leather shoes!

Black tops look great but for a convertible, I prefer a bright interior (no pastels). White leather is nice and I used to have a 1977 Town Car with white leather interior & vinyl top with cordovan (burgundy) exterior.

Bright colors is fine for clothes (no pastels).

I have been on the road for about 7 years and in that time I have owned:

91 Pontiac Firefly - Only 3 cylinders, holes everywhere, lasted a summer though and cost $300.

92 Honda Accord - Put a good number of kms on that. Good car.

2001 Toyota Echo - Current car, and first Automatic....hate the tranny.

Also spent two years driving a 92 F250 with a trailer for a job. Loved that.

Looking for another car now.

In the USA that was known as a Geo Metro or Suzuki Swift. An absolute junker, with a 1 liter engine. I actually rebuilt an engine in one for a customer. I have no idea why a customer would put that kind of money into such a turd, but it was their money. Those cars were proof that not all Japanese manufacturers build a quality car.

I had a 1985 Honda Accord. It was the only Japanese car I ever owned. It was a RUSTY pile of junk, but it ran good. Fortunately in Michigan we have no inspection because that thing would have never passed and emission or safety test. I got it for free, fixed it enough so it would run, drive and stop. I drove it through a winter and sold it for $400.

The '72 Dodge Coronet. It was by far the most comfortable of them all to me, even though it lacked the power seats and other creature comforts that some of the others had. If the seat and steering wheel are in just exactly the right position to begin with, then there's no need to adjust them. The '70 Nova had an aftermarket one, and two Steve Miller 8track tapes (Fly Like An Eagle and Book Of Dreams) slid out from under the seat of that car when I stopped hard once. The blue '73 Monte Carlo had an aftermarket one as well. The '73 and '69 Lincolns had factory 8tracks, the one in the '69 was AM only. I installed used Ford OEM 8tracks in both the '78 Monarch and the '82 Futura. Now that I think about it, I believe the '73 Coupe Deville had a non-working factory 8track in it too, but I can't swear to that as I didn't keep that car for very long and didn't get to drive it much.

Those mid-sizes cars by Ford & Chrysler of the 70s were very comfortable. I was looking at the options list for the 1972 Dodge Coronet an was amazed at how little was offered. No power seats available in the Coronet. Not sure if it was available in the Charger SE of that year. I can see why the 1975 an onward Chrysler Cordoba sold so well. It was the first Chrysler mid-size an had all the luxury appointments of the full-sized Imperial and New Yorker Brougham.
The thick, rich Corinthian leather promoted by Ricardo Montalban made that car extra special.

My 1976 Mercury Cougar as well as Lincoln Mark IV and Mark V were also they most comfortable an felt that Ford designed that car around me personally. In someways, more comfortable than the full-sizes.
The Cordobas' were also sweet cars - especially with T-tops. I almost bought one (in 1992) but the concealed headlights and quadraphonic 8track player vs. the stereo 8track that Chrysler offered pushed me over to the blue oval for good.

Quoting TSS (Reply 178):
I installed used Ford OEM 8tracks in both the '78 Monarch and the '82 Futura.

Was it the quadraphonic player or the stereo player with the silver door? Those were so easy to replace.

Quoting TSS (Reply 178):
Steve Miller 8track tapes (Fly Like An Eagle and Book Of Dreams)

I think those must have came free with the car. I find those two tapes in just about every 8track collection sale.
Did you find Fleetwood Mac's Rumors under the seat as well? That was probably under the seat as well.

2) '93 Ford Escort
3) '00 Jeep Cherokee
4) '96 Ford Explorer
5) '09 Prius
6) '10 Prius

Those were neat little cars!
Probably the most unloved Toronado but I like them for being quirky.
It had the U-shaped console shifter and a cassette tape deck with a door that opened like a home cassette deck.

I did. Between the crime and the traffic it got to be too much hassle.

Yeah. I used to have to carry around a .38 "kill-switch" when I had to go to the funeral home in the middle of the night.
Ridiculous. My '68 Continental had a kill-switch but it still would'nt keep some ghetto rat from knocking out that wonderful old glass to try and snatch the car.

Those were hot, hot, hot when they first came out. The hotest color combination was silver with cranberry interior IMO and there were hundreds of them around Atlanta like that.

...and still a common color combination till this day. Mines was that exact color combination too. That color combination was often featured in the ads when new. I think that is a good color combination for that car.

That is correct. Pastels do not belong on cars.
Here is the Versailles Edition Mark IV.
Check out that lose-cushion velour interior.
I think these were the first to offer the power glass moonroof.

Those are nice small but sporty Lincolns. It would be great to get one of these - particularly the Versace or Valentino Edtion. These came with the 5.0 liter V8. Those you have infinite performance options. These already came with a suspension that is sporty enough to go up against a BMW 5-series.
Heck, you could get a BMW 6-cylinder turbo diesel option for these Continentals.

Not to be confused with the Versailles model that ran from 1977-1980. This was a trim level to the Mark IV.
Similar to the Black Diamond Edition.

The same! Looked like a big Secret roll-on, on wheels.

Had a 5.0L 305 V8 though; plenty of power. I got it at age 16 and wanted to paint it black, with a powder blue Firebird emblem on the hood as a nod to the "Sky Bird" motif I'd be painting over, but my parents (who bought the car for me) wouldn't allow it.

Ok was someone playing a practical joke at the factory that made this car?
How could such an awesome, [email protected] car get vandalized with a lame pastel color such as baby blue?
This color is better suited on a Monza, Vega or a Chevette.

Get ready to hurl, Superfly... in 1980 there was a "Yellow Bird" version-
http://veteran.auto.cz/wp-content/gallery/pont_fire2/80_Pontiac_Firebird_Esprit_Yellow_Bird.jpg

There was a "Red Bird" version as well, which looked the best of the three. I'm guessing that since the Sky Bird was offered in '78 and the Yellow Bird was offered in '80 that the Red Bird must have been available in '79.

That's an extremely flattering photo, probably taken from the factory sales brochure. In real life they were Easter egg yellow (like the pastel yellow color of Easter M&Ms) over a Maize-y yellow.

Sounds nice, but if I was forced at gunpoint to own a "Flexible Flyer" generation (1970-1981: they have the torsional rigidity of overcooked manicotti due to the huge door openings) Firebird, I'd go for a '74 (no catalytic converter and thus no huge tumor in the front passenger floorboard) Formula 400 in metallic blue or charcoal.

Interesting that those cars had a change in the body to accommodate the catalytic converter. Sad they actually sacrificed interior passenger space for these.
I used to own a metallic blue Pontiac Firebird Trans Am of the same vintage of the red one above as a Matchbox car.
