What makes it even more embarrassing is that I did included the UAE, having driven in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Al Ain.

By that criteria, then England is also not a country. It is part of Great Britain. Or else you'd also have to allow Wales, Scotland and Northern Island as separate countries.

Daihatsu

I never drove a street legal Daihatsu, but the Charade was the last new car sold in the USA that had a carburetor. I did drive a small Daihatsu truck, that was in an off road configuration. It was a tiny open top dump truck that belonged to a place where I worked. We beat the hell out of it.

I haven't driven in too many countries: USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany and Switzerland. I have been to a lot more countries, but I didn't do any driving (I was usually too drunk to drive anyway).

Yes. It was a 1971 W353 sedan with the 3 cylinder 2 stroke engine and 4 on tree.
The column mounted stick reminded me that I forgot one brand - a Polish van called Zuk.

I have a lot of experience with a three on the tree. My 1978 Ford F-100 has one, as did my 1981 Ford F-100 and my two 1964 Mercury Comets. In the USA that is now an anti-theft device.

Yes, I can certainly understand that   As a matter of fact, the situation was similar in the old country too by the time I finally received my licence (1984). The column mounted stick was becoming pretty rare in Czechoslovakia. Even new built Wartburgs had floor mounted sticks then. So only people who had older Wartburgs, Polski Fiat's, Moskvich 407 and 408's, Skoda 1202 STW's or Skoda Octavias knew how to use them. Other cars with 4 on the tree - such as Volga GAZ 21, Skoda Felicia (beautiful roadster btw) or Simca Aronde were already very rare. There was even one Hillman Minx in our village. Sadly, long gone.
