2014 World Cup - Airliners Version

Thu Jun 12, 2014 10:46 pm

Hey guys!

I remember doing this back in the early 2000's and I figured I'd do it again. We'll be posting results of the matches for the 2014 World Cup using an airline of the respective country. Let's kick it off!

A bit of hilarity with an own goal, and controversy with a penalty kick, but the results should not have been in doubt. For the first match:

Honestly, although they lost, England looked better than they have in ages, including in games they have won. The midfield actually brought the ball through and held it up instead of just sitting there while defenders lobbed balls forward hoping they just might land in the right place for Rooney (or before him Crouch, Heskey, etc.) to miss an open goal lob them in.
All Glory to the Hypnotoad!

It was fun to learn the results of a few matches from yesterday by using this page!

As exciting as the BRA-MEX match was, I fell asleep with a 0-0 tie in the second half and didn't know anything about RU-SK.

Don't be too hard on yourself - I couldn't decide whether to use an AA or a US aircraft. Decided on AA in the new livery because of the flag motif on the tail - yeah, I know it's not really a US flag but I thought it was more representative of the USA than the tail logo on US's planes. But true enough, there is no single flag carrier for the USA like there is for other countries.

Good call on that, ER757! I had yet to even think about US Airways.

Also, IMHO you made the right choice. New livery works perfect as a patriotic plane for the patriotic feeling of this event. I don't watch soccer/football outside of the US WC games, if the reports are true that if Qatar loses their 2022 bid it goes to the US, I definitely want to use it as an excuse to jump on a plane and take in a game.

I literally cannot name 10 professional players but the atmosphere is just fascinating! Goes way beyond what the Olympics ever hopes to be IMHO.
