Amazing Race: Australia V NZ

Mon Aug 04, 2014 3:02 pm

Hi everyone!
My third favourite tv show has started here in Australia tonight, Amazing Race: Australia v New Zealand.
I'm so excited and so far, it's living up to it's hype.
Virgin Australia is clearly a sponsor, with excellent footage of them so far. The take off footage of a Virgin Australia 737-800 from Uluru in particular looked amazing!
Enjoy!

The Kiwi's should kick arse in this, we're far more adaptable and durable people than Aussies

Besides Grant Bowler is a Kiwi, he's bound to be biased it one of the rules.

Hey mate,
Kick arse you did in the first episode! But it was on your home turf.
Grant Bowler? What about the colour of his hair! Whoever dyed his hair that colour needs to be sacked!
Go Australia, even though we are now losing 5 couples to 4...
Aussie Aussie Aussie!
Oi Oi Oi!

Should be good despite it obviously being on a bit of a tighter budget than the main show.
Wouldn't be surprised to see a USA vs Canada series soon!
64 types. 45 countries. 24 airlines.

Is the race limited to those two countries or is still around the world?

Hi mate,
Episode one started in Uluru, central Australia, en immediately flew to Christchurch, NZ. The rest of the ep was in and around the South Island of NZ but clearly in the next episode the race extends to Asia.
The host, an ex-soapie star and actor called Grant Bowler clearly calls it 'a race around the world'. The opening credits show the usual world landmarks.
It looks like it will be interesting...
Now, where's the 'Survivor' equivalent? I've always said that a country v country Survivor would be awesome!
Cheers,

According to Wikipedia this version will be the third longest race of the entire Amazing Race series. So the budget can't be too limited.

I saw one version of AR Australia on TV here and at the beginning of every episode the presenter would say "after a mandatory rest period" which they don't say on the "real" version. Is that an Aussie health and safety thing?

Speaking of the original show, do they pick contestants based on their lack of worldly-wiseness? It's really funny sometimes.
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

That would be cool since the show is similar but each country has a little of their own set up to it. As long as they're the same language, it shouldn't be too hard though. I can see having to subtitle the show in one country would not go over well.

Hi mate,
I reckon a 'USA' versus 'Canada' versus 'Australia/NZ' versus 'UK' could work. Eight on each team... No subtitles needed... Well, not many! And yes, I would do ANYTHING to represent Australia on it!
Cheers,
