What Color For Future Marta Rail Line?

Tue Aug 26, 2014 12:25 am

While I don't live in Atlanta, I was wondering, if MARTA were to come up with a fifth rail line (heavy rail or light rail), what color should it be? MARTA has a Red, Gold, Blue, and Green Line.

My first choice would be the Pink Line. However, if the line were to serve the gay neighborhoods, then I would choose the Brown Line, since pink would be promoting stereotypes. If you remember, the Asian-American communities objected to the Yellow Line, which is why it was renamed the Gold Line.

How about bare polished metal like American Airlines, the BART trains in the San Francisco Bay Area an the MRT in Taipei?

I don't mean the livery, but the color designation for the line. All MARTA heavy rail cars are stainless steel with a blue, yellow, and orange stripe regardless of the line they are on; stainless steel cars are pretty much the norm for most of today's North American heavy rail transit systems since it resists graffiti.

Not sure, but if it serves mostly white neighborhoods, someone will accuse MARTA of racism just like the Asian-American communities did for the Yellow Line (now known as the Gold Line). Similarly, assigning the color pink to a line serving gay neighborhoods would also be inappropriate, since it would be promoting stereotypes (gay men do not like the color pink any more than straight men). Good thing the Red Line doesn't serve an Indian Reservation.

Yes, but both straight and gay men wear pink polo shirts, neither more than another. I am straight myself and I almost always wear pink shirts. The assumption that only gay men wear pink is a stereotype that needs to be annihilated, and to route a Pink Line into gay communities would be promoting that evil satanic stereotype. Good thing CTA's Pink Line doesn't serve Chicago's two gay neighborhoods.

If they add a fifth line, they'll need a new voice actor/actress. Who should be selected? I think Honey Boo Boo and Mama June would be perfect for the job!

If it's the Pink Line, let it be Cathy Cavadini (voice of Blossom the pink Powerpuff Girl from The Powerpuff Girls). If it's the Brown Line that serves the gay neighborhoods, then the voice should be David Yost (the actor who played Billy the original Blue Ranger from Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers).

Haha calm down dude. I think the best way to get rid of stereotypes like these is to realize that gays are just like anyone else so we don't need to distinguish ourselves from them. Sadly, so many in the South are anti-equality...

As long it doesn't serve Latino communities, then the Brown Line would be just fine.

I've heard the new fifth rail line will feature cars made of out recycled scrapped 767-400ER parts.. Now that will be an entirely different type of flying... ALTOGETHER!

I have a feeling this thread has the makings to be a very memorable one..

Since folks seem able to find "racism" in whatever color names are thrown out there, what about doing away with colors g completely and replacing them with patterns?

There could be the Striped line, the Polka-Dotted line, the Plaid line, the Paisley line, the Argyle line....

Ever heard of this color called orange? I suppose you might offend some Floridians opposed to heritage appropriation, though. But seriously. Orange.

Personally, I think the system should work like this: all the trains, whatever the color, go into one tunnel. In this tunnel, which twists and turns wildly, they are all mixed together. Cars are removed, others are changed into new shapes, and very occasionally one is expelled back out the way it came. For the most part, though, they're all held in one enormous train until once a day they all emerge into daylight at the other end of the tunnel as the Brown Line.

Nah, given the OP's opinion of the 764 they'll fly on angel dust until 2335, at which point they will become the only acceptable sacrifice to Cthulu to stop runaway global warming. They will be nailed to large cruciform structures next to a few 737s and left to die. A few months later, they will mysteriously rise from the dead and will watch over a select portion of humanity, who will use their teachings as justification for centuries of violence, degradation, and exploitation of others.

I do not see the issue here. We are talking Atlanta in the state of Georgia.

The obvious is that it should be the "Peach" line.

Well, there is the proposed Clifton Corridor. However, this thread is just to see what color would they like a fifth MARTA rail line to be. Perhaps I could have instead made one for CTA in Chicago, but CTA has several colored lines with the Pink Line being the newest.

It used to be that threads like this would attract such hilarious abuse so as to teach the offending poster a lesson about himself. This one had potential. Perhaps not Snowglobe or Solid Excrement Test potential, but it had most of the ingredients: absurd, pie-in-the-sky subject matter; tone-deaf, obsessive, certainly socially abnormal personality; and misplaced strong emotions and officious, over-the-top hyperbole. Alas, no dice.

You mean the days in which there were more politically-related/motivated threads posted to a.net (in non-aviation) than anything else (including civil aviation)? You mean the days in which the persons who participated in these threads rarely posted elsewhere, and many could careless about aviation? They just wanted to talk politics.

There were certainly more posts in Civ-Av as well, and IMHO the quality was higher too.

Washington, DC just opened the first half of the Silver Line, adding 5 new stations to the system and connecting the previously unserved Tysons Corner to the system. It also seems to be relieving congestion on the overcrowded Orange Line. When complete, it'll have an additional 6 stations added to what already exists, including to IAD and beyond. A new Purple Line (slated to be light rail) to connect across the Maryland suburbs is in the planning/litigation phases.

As a near-daily Marta rider, this thread is hurting my head.

Whatever changes, just make it like the pleasant NYC subway rides I took today. Very brief announcements, cars conducive to people standing throughout them instead of bunching at the doors. Night and day difference.
