Men Wearing Pink Swim Trunks

Tue Oct 14, 2014 1:55 am

I recently bought a new pair of pink Polo Ralph Lauren swim trunks. They were on sale at Macy's, and I thought is was a deal that was too good to pass. Pink is my signature color, and my friends and family that I showed it to on Facebook like it.

What does anyone here think about pink swim trunks for men? Would any male users here have a problem with it?

These days when I see pink, I think, "Supporting Breast Cancer Research/Awareness/Philanthropy."

I have no problems being reminded of that while at the swimming pool so you're good in my book!

I have a lot of male friends who wear pink and pull it off nicely. No issues here.

I don't have a problem with the color pink, associate it with homosexuality, being feminine, or anything like that, I just don't like it.

Some people might not like T-shirts with some of the humorous sayings I have so they just don't buy them.

In all honesty, I am a big man in terms of size, and if pink was the only color in my size available, and I needed them in a hurry, what choice would I have?

It is a trend. Anyone remember the pastels of the 1980s? Would I wear pink again? No. I did, once. Powder pink and powder grey velour long sleeve Henley. I loved that shirt and wore the heck out of it. And got tired of the color in like six months.

But, if you are happy, why ask anyone else?

Not a big fan of the color, and it looks especially bad on certain airplanes:

I had some bright pink shorts when the kids were growing up; I made a point of wearing them at school amusement park outings and the like. I never got any complaints from the kids (well, no more than the usual), and never had any comments from adults. Go with what you like.

No problem with pink, but definitely a second vote for this:

This isn't Zoolander, man. What, do you bring your pink clothes home, sign them, and then draw a 764 on them?

Seriously, though, the only people I know who speak of "signature" looks are either huge douches, hilariously self-obsessed, or both. Don't be that guy who talks about colors as if he owns them.

Some girl I was dating a few weeks ago told me I would look good in a pink polo. She said pink for men is in fashion now. I have nothing against wearing pink, I just never thought it suit me.

As far as swimming trucks, I could care less what color they are. As long as they are cheap and dry quick.

"Pink is my signature color!" -Shelby from Steel Magnolias

Shelby: My colors are blush and bashful.
M'Linn: Her colors are pink and pink. The church looks like it was hosed down with Pepto-Bismol.

But, if a guy wants to wear pink or grape or aubergine or robin's egg, whatever, I will not say anything out loud. My inner monologue, however....

Pink Speedo's might be a little gay

Before the 1940's baby boys were always dressed in pink - being in the red spectrum it was regarded as a masculine colour:

http://www.theguardian.com/theguardi...ec/12/pinkstinks-the-power-of-pink

"The power of pink

The 'pinkification' of little girls – their clothes, their bedrooms, their toys – is a very recent phenomenon.

Towards the end of the great war, in June 1918, America's most authoritative women's magazine, the Ladies' Home Journal (it still exists), had a few wise words of advice for fretting mothers. "There has been a great diversity of debate on the subject," it wrote, "but the generally accepted rule is pink for the boys, and blue for the girls. The reason is that pink, being a more decided and stronger colour, is more suitable for the boy, while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl."

But, these days, if wearing pink speedos makes me look gay, I'm okay with that.

You do seem to worry a whole lot about what others will think, even when what they think really doesn't matter!

I dislike the colour pink - I find the colour en-masse makes me feel ill. I don't have a problem with others wearing pink/purple/mauve but I dislike it for me.

I've got no problem with pink.
I have About three pairs of pinkish undies I wear, bought in a gift pack of sorts, Calvin Kleins to be exact, and I'm not embarrassed in the change rooms or beach side or poolside changing into and out of them.
I have a pink business shirt I wear, with thin blue and white pinstripes through it. I wear a plain navy Paul Smith tie with it, and usually navy blue trousers. It looks great with dark blue denim jeans as well.
I do however, remember being given a pair of bright pink undies as a mid- teenager by someone who was interested in me (long story as to why) and my mother having a 'fit' over them!
I also had a 'dusty pink' polo shirt that I hated... But I hated it for it's bad fit After a couple of washes rather than the colour. It lasted only one 'season'...
Cheers,
Bunumuring.

I thought, and still think that pink is a color exclusively for women and girls.

I do not like watching the NFL with the men wearing pink. That is a negative.

Pink men's dress shirts were fairly common in the 1970s or so. I had one and it wasn't considered unusual then. I don't think I'd wear it now however (like most of the clothing from the 1970s disco era).

Does anyone remember doubleknit polyester leisure suits? (Fortunately, my standards didn't drop that low.)

My eyes! My eyes!  Wow!

The tip-off that these were real fashion items is that Wards had them as a 'best buy'. Hiphuggers and bellbottoms were okay, but never leisure suits!
