When you paint your RC plane to look more like a Air France 777

When your dad mocks you for looking at "Plane Porn"

When you stand on the BOS terminal B parking garage and jump into your car and hide when security drives by

When you can look up at a plane and know where its going and what it is based on the look and time of day

When you go to a certain In n'out, stay all day, and dont eat a single thing

When your wife refers to a.net as "that plane porn site". True

Colleagues at work do that; I have a friend who buys a lot of the aviation magazines - Airways, Airliner World, AFM, etc - and other colleagues ask if we're just sharing "plane porn". It really is the best kind!

Quoting vikkyvik (Reply 23):
You check this site more than facebook.
WAY more.

Oh Yeah!

Quoting aerorobnz (Reply 31):
When you prefer to fly the wrong way around the world rather than the shortest or indeed cheapest option. eg:I flew to Argentina from New Zealand via Hong Kong, Istanbul and Brazil when I could have flown direct.

Or even just to take in a new aircraft type; I'm looking at going to Oz in February and I want to take one specific EK flight from DXB to PER, as it's a 77L service, high on my "must fly" list (AND having a "must fly" list is also a pretty sure sign).

Quoting joffie (Reply 43):
You reverse your car from a car spot, apply the "parking break" and look left and right to get the "Ok" for taxi.. ie leave the place !!

Or if you; say "starting No1" and then, "clear left, clear right ... and we're rolling"!

Here's a few more:

You're watching a television show relating to aviation and you're picking out all the errors. For example, one of those "Aircrash Confidential" programmes recently about the BA 777 crash at LHR ... and the FO said "there's something wrong". I was thinking, of course there's something wrong ... you're in an A320 cockpit!

You're half-watching the television, maybe while reading something (on some aviation site!), but the merest hint of something aviation related and the ears pick it up ... and you're focused on the news again!

You're watching a VIP arriving somewhere, on a TV news story, and you're far more interested in what plane he/she came in on. Straining for the merest glance of an engine or cheatline that might give it away.

You just look up and see a contrail and think, "God, I wish I was on that plane now", regardless of where it might be going.

You've already seen all the Youtube videos that friends send to you with crazy crosswind landings (but you thank them anyway!)

You see a pilot being interviewed in a cockpit and wonder, "is he cross-qualified on other Airbus types".

You see an old television show where someone is sat in the jump seat ... and a wistful little tear flows down your cheek.

And so on and on and on ...

I can definitely identify with this one...I'm always hoping the cameraman pulls out for a wider shot instead of zooming in on the person descending the air stairs.

Yes, I was watching one of those documentaries last night on YouTube. They were showing an A330, but when it had landed at the gate, it was a B737! What's more, then they zoomed in and made it even more obvious! I had been on that particular aircraft, and it was definitely a Boeing!   The point I am making, is that the people who watch these programs usually have some interest or knowledge in aviation, so they should work on their authenticity, and continuity!

That was the best thing about watching the G20.. half an hour blocks so to speak, of the plane on the tarmac ..and then the leader arrives, and it's more or less over! Except for the taxi and takeoff farewell..

.

Yes, I think, those stories and experiences they could tell, their knowledge over the years - if older... I feel for those younger generation who didn't experience our pre-9/11 world at all.. and I get wisful too..

You stop in the middle of a conversation with someone to look up at the airplane flying overhead

YES! My girlfriend would stop our conversation mid-sentence and just ask me, "what kind of plane is that?"

How could I forget:

1. My pointer is a Boeing 747

2. Back in 2006, I got to work early and there was an A 340 Air Tahiti bird that diverted from JFK the night before and was ready to ferry back. I walked over and apparently crossed the FIDS line. The MTAP police were on me like white on rice. I was just at the top of the air stairs and the crew was going to invite me aboard to tour this bird. Well, the best laid plans.... Talk about a surprise as I had a police escort away from this jumbo that is rare to BWI. And the lead F/A was a cutey. Oh well. My badge was suspended for three (3) days and I had to re-watch the video for badge reinstatement.

.. you can't get to sleep close to midnight so instead of counting sheep, you watch freighters on Flightradar24    and think, those oldies are still going, and study the flight separations.. ...or, listen to aviation podcasts or random commentary from prominent global aviation writers and speakers on YouTube.. I mean this in a positive way!

When during the pre-flight safety briefing they announce what kind of aircraft you are travelling on, and you look around at the pax, because you already know, or have checked the safety card..

When put numbers into a graphing calculator and imagine that you are inputting data into a FMS.
