SPECTRE-New Bond Movie Title/cast/car Announced

Thu Dec 04, 2014 5:22 pm

Oh, yeah...I will be there in line next November, can't wait!

Great cast, but don't care for the car that much

Daniel Craig makes a great Bond, IMHO. Not too "perfect." Believable.

Excellent title choice. I certainly like this title better than Skyfall. I hope the film is as good, if not better than Skyfall, which is a pretty hard act to follow.

I prefer Connery and Dalton to Craig. Craig does well in his role, admittedly, it's just that Connery and Dalton are better, in my view. Connery is just a brilliant actor and his portrayal of Bond in his first two films are second to none, whereas Dalton is the personification of the literary Bond on the big screen.

The front of the new Aston martin looks too cheap, a bit like a Mazda.

You must have read different Bond books than I did. I don't see Dalton as Bond at all, which is probably why he only made 2.

Don't worry they are only making 10 of them so chances are you won't see one and be offended by it.

Craig does do a great job bringing back the classic "Bond" character. We will definitely go see this opening weekend!

I'm wondering how the story line will continue from Casino Royale / Quantum of Solace. Both of those movies had a shady organization that many bond fans thought was SPECTRE from the old Sean Connery days, but then Skyfall kind of threw that plot away. I wonder if this film will bring that story line back, or start anew by introducing SPECTRE as a new, shady organization.

Maybe a little of both: Quantum somehow connected/transform into SPECTRE

Bigger questions: is Christoph Waltz going to be Blofeld?

I think I would put Dalton at the top, followed by Craig, then Connery.

Dalton was the Bond that I wanted to BE the most when I was a 12 year old boy. That is the measure of a great Bond IMO (and also the reason Brosnan was the only truly terrible Bond, since I actively didn't want to be him at all).

I knew I could count on my fellow A-Nutters to jump on this. I was just thinking about the next Bond endeavor when I found out about "Spectre." Craig as 007 is my second best Bond. Connery is in a league of his own for the shaken not stirred shagging spy. There has been speculation on who will do the theme song. Rita Ora, a young hottie blonde, no idea on her vocal talents. And what could have me have a major episode of having kittens is what I hope is just a cruel joke...That boy no talent band No Direction doing a Bond theme? Tha's Communism in my book. My vote goes for Dame Shirley Bassey, or Sharon Jones of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. Check out her cover of Goldfinger on You Tube. If they want another white artist or group go for Rival Sons or the Ali Las.
There's also speculation of Blofeld returning, but a serious PC New Mellenial one without the cat. That would be wrong. I want Blofeld and I want him Bald and with his pooty cat! Memo to Ms. Broccoli and the rest of the Bond crew:

Under no circumstances no boy bands or lame hipster hacks or crapper rappers for the music/theme of the movie. Especially with the iconic title Spectre!

I've never heard of Goldfrapp as long as they are not Hipster, Boy Band or rapper crapper that's fine with me. Rhianna to me is part of the pre-processed Velveeta Pablum artists that are not worthy of a Bond theme. Just my 2 cents. My vote is Sharon Jones, she was made for Bond themes.

I was thrilled when she came out to perform "Goldfinger" during the Oscars two years ago.

When they started with "Live and Let Die," I was really disappointed. I feel it's actually a fairly weak song as far as Bond films go. It's a good song, otherwise, but it just doesn't do it for me in the context of a Bond theme.

Shirley Bassey doing "Goldfinger," though... Aces. Nothing can compare.

Couldn't agree with you more. To me Live and Let Die is the worst Bond film and to me is an embarrassment to the franchise. The theme is OK but wimpy as Bond themes go. I despised Carly Simon's Nobody Does It Better. Ms. Simon should stick to spending Daddy's money and ketchup commercials. I wasn't a fan of Spy Who Loved Me either. And as others have said Connery was Bond buy Mr. Craig is a second best and tries harder. Live was the first Bond Movie not to have John Barry as composer and it shows. George Martin was great with the fab 4 but fell down on Live. Also Live is super dated capitalizing off the Shaft, Blaxploitation craze of the early to mid 70's. The whole goofy movie reminds me of James Bond does Love American Style and Laugh In.

Major story on SkyNews last night about this... Straight after the story on Qantas' VH-OJA going to a museum...
Yes, Waltz will be Blofeld.
Locations will be Mexico, Morocco, UK, Ireland (I think they said) and Italy (ditto).
Nothing said about the theme song...
They said what SPECTRE stood for 'Special P-- E-- C-- Terrorism R-- C-- ' but I cant remember exactly what.
Filming was to start tomorrow (Monday)...
Cheers,
Bunumuring.

PS: Daniel Craig IS Bond, in my opinion, and I'm a huge fan of the franchise. Connery gets my number two vote, a distant second.

PPS: Rita Ora? No no no... Nor Paloma Faith! Someone somewhere approach Annie Lennox and/or Kate Bush please! One Direction? Well, a-ha did get the theme for the The Living Daylights all those years ago when in a similar position ...

I couldn't disagree with you more. To me, Dalton embodies the Fleming Bond - the Bond who is human rather than superhero, who is vulnerable as opposed to invincible, who has such a distaste for killing that drinks his humanity away, as opposed to making quips about his work. In some ways, the literary Bond is the antithesis of the cinematic Bond. Fleming depicts Bond as someone who is slowly losing his humanity due to his job, who knows that every day could be his last. I can easily picture Dalton's Bond sitting alone at his flat after a mission trying to drink the demons of his actions into silence.

The literary Bond isn't someone that women want to be with, nor someone that men want to be. At the end of the day, he is a ruthless killer, paid by his government to kill people - a job he was damn good at, but disliked immensely. Bond only kills when he has to, when the victim is perceived to be evil or have done evil. On that basis, Dalton has nailed the literary Bond down to a T, and that's why purists like myself love him. His interrogation of General Pushkin in his hotel room in The Living Daylights; his "Stuff my orders!" line at the beginning of the film; his loyalty to Leiter in Licence to Kill and his "problem eliminator" line seem as though they're straight out of the novels.

As for the reason he only did two, if it wasn't for the six year hiatus during which the bitter dispute between EON and McClory were being played out in court, there would have been a Bond film in the early 1990s and Dalton would have played the role as he was contracted to do. When his contract expired in 1994, he chose not to renew it.

It has been reported Dalton was approached for the role of James Bond twice - once to play Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and second, in For Your Eyes Only. He refused the first time because he was too young, and didn't want to be that guy who took over from Connery; and the second time because he didn't like the direction that the producers have taken Bond, and didn't believe they were serious in looking for a replacement for Moore.

Quoting moo (Reply 5):

Likewise. However, I feel that Craig is a little too "perfect". Fleming's Bond had a slim build, and I doubt very much that he was anywhere near as fit as Craig is. Fleming's Bond is described as having a slim build. Fleming's Bond is a boxer and a practitioner of judo, but wasn't particularly muscular or well built, and wasn't particularly fit (probably due to excessive drinking and smoking). The stunts that he had been able to pull, particularly at the start of Casino Royale, seemed rather implausible, for example. Bond may have been a good brawler, but I've not seen Bond leaping from crane to crane the way he did, either in the novels or in any previous film. The staircase fight scene was brilliant, though.

I'm one of those who thinks Bassey is the only choice. She has proven time and again that she can sing a great Bond theme, and I think it would be a travesty if she wasn't given a chance to do her fourth. Bassey is an icon not only of the music industry but of the Bond franchise too.

That's a perfectly acceptable opinion, don't worry. Moore was great, just great in a different style to Connery. My full ranking would be:

1) Dalton
2) Craig
3= Connery
3= Moore
4) George Lazenby
5) Barry Nelson
6) Erm..Bob Holness
(pause to check wikipedia)
7) Michael Jayston
8) Toby Stephens
9) Christopher Cazenove

If you got flamed I'd be ticked off. Interestingly enough the Bond producers/franchise originally wanted Moore when the series went to the silver screen. Even George Lazenby was originally considered. I'd actually rate Moore as my third choice of Bond. Craig being 2 and of course Connery as the King of Shaken Not Stirred. Lazenby did himself in by only doing the one Bond film thinking becoming the next Bond would be a career killer. Talk about a bad decision. Akin to Pan Am taking over National Airlines. I would have liked to see at least one or two more Bonds with Lazenby. Moore added the humor quotient and was a good fit for the schmaltzy kitschy 70's. Especially when many of the films did not use John Barry. Moore saved Live and Let Die from being an F in my book and elevated it to a D. Moore also elevated Spy Who Loved Me from a droll D to a mediocre C. Moore made to look older could have outdone Peter Sellers as Bond at 0070 years of age.

That's where I like the rawness of the new Daniel Craig Bond, but I also think they go TOO dark and too sordid. There has to be a balance. Bond is a gentleman spy and we all want to be him. I don't want to be a misnthropic drunken lost boy like the way Craig portrays him. It loses the lustre, IMO.

I wonder why they never made Nobody Lives Forever Written by John Gardner back in 1988. Has a simple but edge of your seat plot. Could be done in any era. Not dated. I read the novel. Only thing would have to be changed; Moneypenny is young, athletic and hot and a fellow agent whereas the old Moneypenny had a love Jones for Bond and was sort of frumpy.
