To the guitar players out there: which is your favorite electric guitar?

Mine:

Edit: Whoops, didn't realize the link was in Turkish. You get the idea, though.

I've always loved Les Pauls, but my favorite is the 1977 BC Rich Eagle I still have. Hand-made, neck through the body, varitone switch, booster, split coil option for the pickups, a thing a beauty. It can sound like anything from a Telecaster to an overdriven SG or Les Paul. Was my main stage axe when I was in the band because I could use it for anything from the spacey Pink-Floyd type stuff to the jazz influenced songs to the hardest heavy metal tunes we'd play.
I also love the Dean Flying V copy I bought about the same time. Has Dimarzio super distortion pickups and the skinniest neck I've ever played. The action is unbelievable. Pretty limited to hard rockers but great for those tunes.

My favorite is the Gibson ES-175, one of the best jazz guitars of all time. This is the main guitar of my favorite smooth jazz guitarist, Brian Hughes.

I've owned Les Pauls, Strats, and various wanna-be's. Nothing beats the tone of a Les Paul, but playing it is just so damned uncomfortable when sitting. It's too tail-heavy. My favorite guitar for casual playing is my Gibson SG. Light weight, great neck, and it has that great crunchy tone that is unique. Not as flexible perhaps as a Les Paul or a Strat, but it does what it does brilliantly.

Man, I always wanted an SG but never had one. Seeing as I grew up idolizing Pete Townshend, it's only natural I should have bought one but alas the stars never aligned. I don't play often enough anymore to justify purchasing a new guitar.

By the way, the stupidest thing I EVER did was sell my 1956 Les Paul Custom. I was young and dumb, wanted the money for a new car. My guitarist friend loves to remind me how much those things are worth nowadays......

I'm lucky enough to own a Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Pro circa: 2010. Zebras- '57 Classic neck/Burstbucker 3 bridge, and coil-splitting. Weight-relieved body. Heritage cherry sunburst. Rosewood fret board. Trapezoid inlays. Locking tuners. Oh yesss.

If I may continue to brag  , I also own an early '90s model Gibson Les Paul Studio. I don't know the exact pickup specs, but it looks like nickel-covered 490R/498Ts were dropped. The obvious specs for this guitar are a completely solid mahogany body with the maple "cap". Wine red finish. Ebony fret board. Trapezoid inlays. Original machine heads since replaced...now Kluson. Again; oh yesss.

Understandably little consolation: I had an early Fender Pro-Reverb blackface. If only I had known what it was worth...

I haven't played every guitar out there by a long shot. But interestingly, I hate Strats. I'm more of a humbucker guy (yes, I know, plenty of people put humbuckers in Strats), and ergonomically they don't work for me.

I've quite liked the PRS guitars I've played.

But of the guitars I actually own, I've whittled them down to three electrics:

Ibanez SZ720FM
Ibanez AWD83T (semi-hollow)
Epiphone SG Prophecy

Quoting Dreadnought (Reply 3):

Wait....you don't like tail-heavy, but you like SGs??

Quoting ER757 (Reply 4):

If it's a cost thing, the Epiphone SG Prophecy I have is actually quite good. EMG pickups, Mahogany neck and body, etc. Quite good for the price.

The SG sits on your leg perfectly balanced. The Les Paul, if you let go of the neck, will fall over backwards.

Nothing sounds like a Les Paul, and if you are standing up, it's great. It's just not the most comfortable when you are simply noodling.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your meaning. With every SG I've held (whether sitting or standing), if you let go of the neck, it will quite quickly fall down. They're very neck-heavy, due to the thinner, lighter body.

Interesting!

That's the one thing I don't like about my SG - gotta hold the neck at all times, even if I'm not playing at the moment.

Gibson ES-345.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj96/Rush8track/Gibson66ES345SB821403_4_zpsvi57gtqj.jpg

This is absolute perfection.
I'd be happy with a ES-335 or even a ES-355 too.
Tobacco sunburst, trapezoid bridge, black inlay frets.
Very comfortable to play, superb tone an sustain for various styles of music.
Great for classic metal, prog-rock, soft rock, R&B/funk, jazz and lounge. Those are the styles I like to play.
Then plug this in to a Marshall or Hiwatt amp and you've got the sound I'm looking for.

Since I played sax (a Selmer which I wish I still had) I asked the son-in-law which were his favorites that he actually uses to make money with.

'97 Music Man Axis Sport
'73 Gibson Les Paul
'04 Ampeg Dan Armstrong
'11 Nash Telecaster

Like ER757's friend he has around 20 and still plays in 2 punk rock bands.

If I played professionally an was in a band like Alex Lifeson, Carlos Santana or vikkyvik, I'd buy one.
They are versatile an can emulate the sounds of a Fender statocaster, telecaster, Gibson Les Paul an ES-335. Perfect so you don't have to lug all those guitar types around if you're on tour.

I bought my son as his high school diploma present, a PRS signature limited, I had to travel to Austin to buy it, it was very expensive and had played a Santana artists series in SFO Guitar center, I knew this guitar were very good, but my sons guitar is incredible, very easy to play, killer tone, out of this world sustain and beautiful, its cherry red, and he loves it.

I have 8 guitars and they are very good and very different, but I think My Steve Vai Ibanez Jem BRMR is incredible easy to play, very fast and has great tone. here is an old picture of my stable, ( 2 Seagull Acoustics and a telecaster)

I'm a bassist, but I won't let you 6 string folks have all the fun.

There's a custom guitar shop in Washington called Warmoth, and they make some killer stuff. Want a 24 fret bright yellow Tele with active Seymour Duncan pickups and black hardware? You can get it.

I like their Gecko 5 bass, with a thin neck at the nut (smaller hands, so I prefer J bass necks to P bass), mahogany body, Gecko inlay, and whatever inset wood I want. Maybe when I have a few grand more sitting in the bank...

Otherwise I really like the Marcus Miller signature J Bass (used by the bassist of Opeth   ) and my brother's 4 string baritone Warwick. Those are nice pieces, but they intimidate me a little.

But if I'm feeling The Cure, you gotta do Fascination Street justice: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fender_Bass_VI

Yeah!! me too!

Me playing my 2001 Warwick Corvette Standard in a bar...

I bought this bass without even trying it, after listening Prince bassist playing a Warwick... And never regretted, I love it still today! I looked for a passive fretless bass, and that's what I got.

There's a bass builder 10 minutes from where I live, that got to be quite famous:

https://www.jerzydrozdbasses.com/images/banners/jerzy-drozd-bass-guitar-prodigy-le.jpg

http://www.jerzydrozdbasses.com/

I can't play that kind of bass (nor the fender Marcus Miller signature) I should be buying a new ampli every couple of months!

Returning to guitars, I always loved Fender Telecaster, that guitar and its sound is so easy... don't know how to explain. I played a lot of time with a guy with a Ibanez and also love that guitar, but I could never learn how to play it, or even tunning it!

I dabbled in playing bass for while - came in handy in the band when the bass player didn't show up at practice, I'd fill in.
Had a Les Paul Recording bass - it looked like a gold-top Les Paul but was a hollow body with f holes. Didn't see many of those around - loaned it to a guitar playing friend at work and never saw it again.

Taylor DN3, Fender Stratocaster (Mexcian), Gibson Les Paul Studio Deluxe II, Hagstrom Viking, Rickenbacker 360, Gibson SG Standard. If I had to pick just one, I would pick the Les Paul. Absolutely brilliant. The biggest surprise to me was the Hagstrom. One heck of a great guitar if your budget is $800 instead of $3000 for a Gibson 335.

Damn, what esteemed company you put me in!

You rock!
Quoting vikkyvik (Reply 35):
Sadly, I haven't been in a band for a few years now.

Well, you rocked.
Quoting ER757 (Reply 36):
you're not going to believe this, but my cousin had that exact same entertainment center!

Nice! One of the last entertainment systems sold at regular department stores that had wide & deep shelves to accommodate large & heavy stereo components. I bought mines in 2001 from The Good Guys.
I removed the compact disc holder rack to place more stereo components
There are still entertainment systems made large enough to hold stereo components but only at high-end audio stores and they aren't cheap.

SWEET!

You have a healthy habit.
