Days Are Increasing

Days are increasing rapidly! Its noticeable.

Its 5:03pm right now and it is snowing but it is still day. You know the days are longer when it is bright at 5 and snowing.
It will not be long until we have 6pm and brightness.

Still dark at 8am.

Even though I've experienced seasonal day changes for 44 years, I still am in awe of it. It's always wonderful to see how different it is throughout the works at various times of year.

I was in northern Sweden a few years ago in late December. That hint of light mid day was inspiring.

The midnite sun in northern Alaska in July is awesome.

I applaud the op for allowing us to take time to notice Mother Nature.

Thanks to both of you, now I have to go buy a new computer. I doubt I´ll be able to clean all the water that I just spat all over the key board. But hey, I had a good laugh.

Other than that, I believe we have to take it easy on the OP. Obviously he means well. Sure, some of his threads may be special, but since our threads are not special, I think it falls on us to be more tolerant. There is clearly something special in the threads the OP starts.

You may all wish to look at my threads from 8 years ago, when I was going through a very hard personal time, and I am embarrased by what I wrote back then. Even to my answers to other people´s threads. So, I believe we should be more accommodating. At least avoid some of the more snarky responses. Just my two cents.

I understand your frustration, but you should not write stuff like that. In some places it may be taken seriously and you may get in trouble. The second is the official SI unit of time, however, minutes, hours, and days are also approved for use with SI units, even though they are not SI units themselves. So units such as the km/h or kWh are metric units but not SI units, since the hour is not an official SI unit.

I can answer that. Blossom likes seconds because it's the official unit. Bubbles likes seconds because she can't hold her attention over the longer periods of time. Buttercup doesn't have a favorite because she can't be bothered to care about time.

I've been totally desensitized by other forum's I'm on that are totally unmoderated. We desperately need a happy medium here, it's quite silly that we can barely say anything except, "You're totally right, great job!" without having our posts deleted.

In the technical forums (CivAv, Photo, etc) I understand it - we need to keep things on topic and productive - but in the NonAv forum? Come on, let us have some fun and bring some personality to these things. Trigger-happy moderators are a big reason why I post here about 90% less than I did before I knew what other forums were out there.

Well, if you really want to, I know a nice cliff in Co. Antrim, near the Giant's Causeway. It should be not too faraway from your place. Alternatively you could drive over to Connemara, there are several ovely cliffs as well...

... so here's my nice post.

This is the 49-th time (OK, actually only the 48-th, as I wasn't born yet on this day of 1966) when I can follow the days getting longer this time of the year and I'm happy seeing it every year. I know very well it's coming, but I'm still happy to see it and I'm happier by the day as it's progressing (OK, perhaps happier is an overstatement, Mrs. Wildcat would rather say I'm getting less grumpy).

But still, if I live long enough to actually retire, I'd like to move to a place where the difference in day length between the winter and summer is minimal - and the difference between the temperatures in winter and summer too.

Thats mean, the OP must be depressed, these are things depressed people dwell on to keep them going, next he will look forward to flowers blooming when that becomes dull, then summer coming will bring him joy, as the next fall approaches he will get down again, hope he seeks help if depression is the cause he did this topic.

If you like plenty of sun, check Madrid out during summer. It's light early to late, and I mean late, and it is an awesome city. I've always wondered why M-town stays so bright so late, while many places along a similar line of latitude, get dark by 21:00 during the summer.

The further north you go, the hours of daylight increase very rapidly this time of year, by as much as 15 or 20 minutes a day in the Arctic regions of Canada for example, where it's dark 24 hours a day in mid-winter and daylight 24 hours a day in mid-summer. For example, at Resolute Bay (YRB) which is about 74 deg. N, the hours of daylight can change by about 90 minutes in only a week in the late winter and late fall, and by about half an hour or more in just one day for the 2 or 3 days just before the sun sets for good in early November and again for the first few days after it reappears again in early February.

Back in the old days the official time in the Netherlands was GMT + 19 minutes and 32.13 seconds. That fitted with sun in south at noon on the tower of th townhall building in The Hague, the capital city.

On 17 March 1937 it was adjusted for practical reasons to GMT + 20 minutes. It made sea navigation a lot easier, often using Royal Navy astronomic charts. But it didn't last long.

A week after nazi occupation of the Netherlands (16 May 1940) Hitler drecreed that Dutch time should be equal to Berlin time, and it has been retained ever since.

That is one of very few Hitler decrees which still stand today.

Have you ever heard of blackout curtains, it's what we here in Norway use, I'm pretty sure they are common all over the Northern most parts of the Northern Hemisphere.
