These skills have been lost because women aren't home barefoot and pregnant anymore.
I am not "missing the point" but, rather, trying to explain that this is not the 1950s anymore. There are plenty of women who want to cook and enjoy doing it. But, so many men are accustomed to everything being there at the snap of his fingers. Cooking a good and flavorful and healthful meal takes time. People do not want to wait anymore. Why should they when there is a Pizza Hut app, Chipotle app, Taco Bell app, and so many other food ordering apps? We have been conditioned to believe that this food should taste one way and that food should taste that way because that is what the fast food industry has done to us.
Take tacos, for example. It takes hours to marinate and cook steak to perfection. Then, to pair it with the right corn tortillas and salsa, get the onion to cilantro ratio just so. But, to many Americans, that is not tacos. Tacos come in some crunchy thing with ground "beef" and lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream and cheese.
Plus, so many women enjoy being treated as human and not this subservient thing that is "barefoot and pregnant" and catering to the bread winner.
