Um, helps to have a starting point - what are you interested in? Likes/dislikes? Budget limitations?

The Kansai region is home to over 20 million people, is on water, and has mountains on three sides. Not to mention Osaka is a multiethnic bustling metropolis - there's something here for everyone.

You do know there is a feature on the internet called Google, right? Also numerous travel web sites offer a wealth of information.

There is a winery in Kobe...I haven't been there, because most people prefer visiting the Suntory distillery and craft beer houses in Minoh.

There's a bunch of great scenery in the area...nearby you can do Mount Rokko, also in Kobe:

http://www.feel-kobe.jp/_en/area_guide/rokko/

There's a great hike in the hills of Ashiya (the Beverly Hills of western Japan) as well (20 minutes by train from Osaka station)

http://www.tripadvisor.com/LocationP...Ashiya_Hyogo_Prefecture_Kinki.html

Awaji island is about 2.5 hours from central Osaka (on the other side of the bay from Kobe) and they have a well known Westin resort center there:

http://www.westin-awaji.com/en/

If you are willing to go a bit farther, there are several other incredible sites within 2 hours' distance.

Of course the cities of Kyoto and Nara and all of their historical scenery are just 30-40 minutes by train each from central Osaka. There's hundreds of websites about visiting both.

For shopping:

Shinsaibashi is the main shopping area, followed by the Minami-senba and Kitahorie fashion districts. There are also far more specialized areas if you're interested in more eclectic stuff.

The top 5 star hotels in Osaka are pretty definitively:

-Swissotel Nankai/Namba (near Namba, the main nightlife area)
-The Intercontinental (near Osaka station)
-The Ritz Carlton (near Osaka station)
-The St. Regis (Honmachi...near Shinsaibashi)

There are 15-20 much more reasonable hotels that are good quality by Japanese standards that cost probably 2/3 to 1/2 less than the above.

Whatever you do, don't stay near KIX, as there is virtually nothing in that area.

Both doing very well. Both very rich/successful cities.

Is it a famous winery?

Fairly famous in this area, but very likely even a lot of Japanese outside Kansai haven't heard of it unless they are fans of domestic wine. Most Japanese are only into wines from the usual places though.

Hokkaido is an island.

Osaka is more glorious than ever, and has diversified its economy well beyond the manufacturing base of the 70s and 80s.

OK seriously there's plenty of info online for this stuff.

You don't even bother saying 'thank you', so I'm done here. Enjoy your trip anyway.

huge fan of Osaka here.

Hotel I recommend- Hotel Nikko Osaka, Shinsaibashi

Places to go- Dotombori, Osaka Castle, take the train to Kyoto, Go to Umeda, even Wakayama is a pretty little side trip.
Tsutenkaku is a symbol of Osaka but climbing it isn't worth it. The Umeda Sky building is better.
Shopping in Shinsaibashi and Mido Suji is a must.
Food- Okonomiyaki, Kushikatsu (Daruma in Dotombori or Shinsaibashi is amazing!)
I'm allergic to Octopus so don't ask me about TakoYaki

USJ is also nice

What month/season are you planning on going up to Hokkaido? If around the winter months and you enjoy some awesome powder, I do know of several great ski resorts in the Sapporo vicinity. Also, check out Royce. It is famous for its chocolates up there.
