Worst Aviation Film: Non-Stop

Sat May 16, 2015 11:32 am

So last night, I decided to have a Friday in with a pizza and a few beers. Went to the supermarket to get said items and saw 'Non-Stop' on sale for £4. I decided to buy it and was thoroughly disappointed. I am normally a massive Liam Neeson fan, but I didn't enjoy the plot or his character at all. And I can normally get away with films/tv shows not being technically correct regarding flying, but that just took the biscuit.

Has anyone else seen it? Thoughts?

What's your 'worst aviation film'?

not related but since Liam Neesan is mentioned I found the movie Taken rather stupid,, it all seemed so rushed, there was nothing to it,

... I didn't love Non-stop, but I didn't hate it either ...
I saw it at the cinemas with a mate and he nearly throttled me as I whispered all the way through the movie about the technical mistakes being made through the movie...

I haven't seen "Non-stop," but I can't imagine it being worse that this piece of turd flick I had the unfortunate experience of wasting 90 minutes of my life on:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0421239/?ref_=nv_sr_1

There's no less than 6 different aircraft used to depict the lone flight from DFW to MIA in the movie, including a mix of Boeing and Airbus aircraft.

At least "Airplane!" was consistent about the aircraft they used and it was more factually correct about aviation than this "movie" was.

But Red Eye used the plane as a mere location so it doesn't matter that much, I liked that one, from what I remember. Cillian Murphy was very creepy !

Non-stop yeah it was hard to appreciate with all the BS. I'm a member on imdb forums and there a lot of people (Americans) are upset about the terrorists being white Americans...

I've seen both at the cinema.

I have never brought myself to watch it - feel like I should just for the laugh

On a side note, the worst film I have ever seen is a one called Rubber. It's about a tyre that likes to kill people. Horrendous plot, terrible acting, but something you should watch :P http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1612774/

Flightplan, with Jodie Foster.

Premise; She helps design a super duper Jumbo, and on the maiden voyage, her kid gets kidnapped....on the plane...and nobody remembers seeing her kid even get on the plane.

My bowels clench just thinking about that drek. That I paid money to see it squeezes lemon juice in the wound.

Yeah. That's right up there. A380 was in development (I think even flying) and they come up with some thing that looked like a stealth fighter got it on with an A380. What the hell?

I think seating in coach was 20 abreast or some crazy thing. It was like an A380 had a threesome with an An225 and another A380...and they were all methe addicts and gave each other AeroHerpes....and the baby fell out of a tree.

I don't know...whenever I think about that mind sucking waste of everything, I start to black........

I agree that flightplan is the worst. The acting is not convincing at all.

Non-stop was good for the first half of the movie, then it became gradually worse and worse.

Com'on, how could you not love and appreciate the accuracy of the movie? I mean that avionics bay was sooo realistic...

I did love those windows though!

I cringe watching many movies that have aviation and airplanes in them (hell even the news). My favorites are the many movies that have a A300 or 767 take off and then a DC-10 or 727 are seem landing. I mean seriously, they can't get something THAT simple correct?

Quoting SIA747Megatop (Reply 16):

I honestly can't put Soul Plane in the same category as the other movies (like Flightplan) because Soul Plane was not at all trying to by a "flight movie" and be accurate about aircraft and the industry. They weren't trying to be taken seriously, instead it was just a platform and they were mocking it wholeheartedly. I mean who doesn't want 74' with 100" rims with spinners and hydraulic suspension?!

Does anyone know the name of that movie where an "Oceanic" 747 is hijacked and a team of Navy Seals (I think they were seals?) get onboard through a duct from a B2? The movie was engaging and very well done. I'm not sure how realistic the "hose connection" is, probably not at all, but it was still very entertaining. I haven't seen it in years though.

That's it. Kurt Russell is a great actor. Although Breakdown was not an aviation film, it ranks as one of my top favorites just because how well he played his character.

Air Force One had more unrealistic scenes in it than Executive Decision, but it definitely had me on the edge of my seat the entire time.

I agree, the premise wasn't all that but but it ran out of steam the longer it went on.

I was not impress by the movie, for one after decades of seeing 747s and 707s in movie, a 767 just did not feel right, a the plot was not the best.

I saw it when it was at the theater, wasn't expecting much. We tried not to laugh out loud so as not to disturb our fellow movie goers. I only bought a ticket so that I could see some airplane scenes and I knew it would have a cheesy plot.

But damn, Liam Neeson is a block of wood. I still don't understand how he put in such a spectacular performance in "Schindler's List" because everything else he has been in he has been a terrible actor.

While not an aviation themed movie per se, this one is terrible too:

Nicolas Cage is flying something that looks like a 762 with 332 - like winglets and when he finally crash lands it, it miraculously turns into a 737 with wing slides...

My wife and I went to see Pearl Harbor at the theatre, during the air battle scene when they played "chicken" by flying between the hangers that was enough for me. As I was getting up to leave she yanked my ass back down and told new to stay put. Is one of the worst aviation related movies I've scene....
