British actor Christopher Lee had died in london.
He was best known for his roles as Dracula, the baddy in James Bond's "The Man with the Golden Gun" and as Saruman the White (the evil wizard) in "Lord of the Rings".
But he also had an illustrious military career, first volunteering to serve with the Finnish army during the Winter War in 1939 / 1940, but saw no action. After returning to the UK, he volunteered for the RAF, but was grounded due to bad eyesight. Instead he was posted into military intelligence and allegedly did stints both with the Long Range Desert Group and the SOE (today considered as special forces, though he refused to talk about his time there).

After WW2 he went back to acting.

According to an anecdote, when, during the casting of a movie, the director tried to demonstrate to him how to behave after getting his throat cut, he responded with "Don't worry, I know how aman sounds who has got his throat cut!".

Correction, the anecdote went about a man being stabbed in the back, not having his throat cut.

Legend is used so often that it has become a nothing word. If you want a true definition though look no further.

He was such a versatile actor.

Everything from being a spy to being in a musical comedy that had a song that is essentially alcohol puns.

To another plane of existence, the Good Sir shall go...

He always seemed to be in good health for a man of his age. But I guess any little thing can quickly take you down at that age.

RIP Sir Christopher. It seems he actually died on June 7th but the announcement was held back until today to allow his notification to trickle through his family. I've been listening to his heavy metal album Charlemagne: The Omen of Death and Metal Knight today in his honor.

I didn't realize he was that old. I had him a decade and half younger.

One other note about his appearance in "Man with the Golden Gun" He and Ian Flemming where cousins.

Listening to Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven as recited by Sir Christopher Lee.

Dracula..? In seriousness, he kept in good physical condition because he kept his mind active by working

Dude was a boss, in every sense of the word. He truly brought his roles to life, even in art.

Seriously. That he was able to do most all of his own sword work in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith says quite a bit.

In his younger years he used to be a competition fencer.

Step-cousin. Fleming had offered Lee the title role of Dr. No over a decade earlier but producers had already chosen Joseph Wiseman to play first Bond-film villain.

"Legend" doesn't even come close to summing up the man based on his body of work. It's doubtful we'll ever see his like again.

Godspeed, sir.
