I own a lovely 1996 GMC 1500 Savana conversion van together with my friends. We use it as a road trip vehicle and party car. Beer fridge and Nintendo games are installed...
The thing is that it has about almost 500 000 miles (800 000 km) on the meter so it needs some care sometimes.
The transmission electronics shorted out when driving in the Czech mountains this summer (we had to shift manually for the rest of the trip and had no first gear, but no big problem). We have isolated the problem to a shifting solenoid.
Getting the parts to Sweden is a pretty expensive and time consuming process. Bought some brake rotors for example:
Price for the rotors: 95 $
Shipping and tax: 90 $
and it took three weeks to get them (and one bearing race was not mounted and missing but that is another story)
I am going on a business trip to Chicago tomorrow and would like to buy the solenoid i need somewhere. Is there a place where I can buy it? Or should i try to buy it over ebay and deliver it to the hotel (possible?). I only stay for two nights and are expected to be in meetings daytime.
Any tips appreciated.
